3 up, 5 mile progression tempo, little rest, 6 strides 4ish down. Closed the last 3 well under 16. I’m in sub 16 shape right now but the weather is shite and there’s no races anyway.

I'm thinking about doing a destination marathon next year.

I was checking out the marathon in Anchorage, AK in June. Anybody on here ever do that one? It looks extremely scenic.

Another option I was considering was Missoula, MT.

That's a hell of a 5 mile tempo. sub 16 appears to be cake for you. Have you thought about sub 30 10k as a goal?

Not sure if anyone has been following Badwater 135 but Harvey lewis took the win in 25:50 and Sally McRea for the women in 30:48.

Really appreciate it, KS. At 40 sub 32 might be a little more realistic. Carrying a 4:50 for 6.2 might be a little out of reach now. Hell I haven’t run a true sub 5 since college.

Goals... you can't achieve them if you don't make them. its that simple right? 32 min would still be awesome.

Don't take this personal but based on your statement you simply aren't in shape to run any faster once you factor in heat, wind, and any other outdoor factors. Shape is such a subjective term. With a race set for the end of august and a desire to run in that 8:40 range you just gonna have to spend more time running. If these paces are individual workouts, not brick, expect you pace to be slower once you've swam and biked. Sometimes you just have to recalibrate expectation based on current true shape. Again nothing personal as most people have to tackle this at some point when trying to hit goals.

I’m not sure if the elevation actually had an impact or if it was mostly mental, but track workout this morning was tough as shite for me.

Beautiful location and track, but tough.

I'm still battling a hip injury. I haven't given up on the running, but I am starting to worry that it may be a ligament. It's been 3 weeks now, and it's still painful and affecting my gait and posture at times. The good news is that it hasn't gotten worse, and I can still run 4-5 miles on it without much issue. I guess I am just going to continue taking it day by day for a while. I know that ligaments can take a while to heal, so maybe I will start to notice some improvement in a week or two.

As soon as this damn cycling ride/race whatever in Arkansas is complete I’m going to resume Marathon training with the goal race being Napa Valley Marathon in March. I gotta say though, I’m enjoying cycling. Especially in the Summer whereas running is just such a damn chore. I realize I’ll lose running fitness and be playing catch up, but I’m enjoying what I have going on right now.

I’ll see where it ends up, but I may start to do a cycling ride/race in the Fall (Summer training) and running stuff thereafter, each year.

I've spent so much between the two that I've asked myself why not just do a triathlon at this point? What's one more discipline?

I’ve still got some improvements left in this whole running thing. If I can go straight from Chicago into Boston prep, then into NY prep potentially, that would be a lot of consistent work stacked together
