4.55 miles in 45 minutes today. Watch said my HR was high but I felt good and backed off when it felt like it was getting tougher.

That's my longest pain-free run since I deleted my knees in college. I'm pretty damn excited.

Ran easy 4th of July 5k this morning with some friends. I was more of a pacer and there for encouragement than actually running, but it was my first run in weeks, and it felt good to stretch the legs a bit.

Pretty sure I saw Polar Pop out there, but couldn’t catch him to say hi.

Virtual 5k this morning on the treadmill. It was a livestream race in Coronado (Crown City 5k) with an iFit trainer.

I finished the distance in 35 minutes, which is a huge accomplishment for where I am at in my journey. The trainer was a paraplegic who lost her leg in a helicopter accident in Afghanistan 9 years ago and is a marathon runner now. Her goal was 32 minutes but she immediately had issues with her leg replacement and had to just walk it out. Was a very interesting experience. I ended up walking out the rest of the livestream with her and I ended up covering 5.5 miles by the time she finished and the stream closed.

Yep that was me. I had a reverse pain effect and the back half beat my arse on the downhill. 21:35, 4 people off from a mug.

Mug times seem to be getting slower. I might train next year to see if I can get another mug. Been about 8 years.

Yep. The 2 women that I was “pacing” got mugs at 25:30ish.

Neither had ever run below 30 minutes, so it was super fun helping them crush a PR and get a mug.

This is the 2nd 5k this year where I’ve just “paced” someone to a PR, and I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Moreso than if I ran a PR myself.

A little personal update….

I hit my target weight today at 190. Started at 216.

Hit another milestone today as well. First full 10k distance. I did this in intervals. Ran a mile, walked a quarter until it was done. So that reflects on my pace. My running pace was 9:28 throughout the exercise. Next goal is to run 2 miles, then walk a quarter.

My hip/leg hurts like hell, but I've been running through it. It feels better when running, and taking a couple of days off made no difference. I'm probably destroying something, but I'm tired of starting over damnit.

I'm well into week three of seventeen for half marathon training through Garmin. Very different than what I did before. I'm following the Greg McMillan plan for a goal time but the end goal is for a 15k followed by a 10 miler. Both have decent elevation gains so the goal time is something under 7:50/mi. Today was 15 min warmup, 15 minute at race pace, 15 min cooldown. Tomorrow is an easy run, Thursday is stride repeats, and Saturday is my long run.

It hit a noon shake out on Monday 4-8 depending on if Sunday was a workout, Tuesday 11-13, Wednesday workout 12-16, Thursday 10-13, Friday 11-13, Saturday 10-12 workout unless Sunday long run is a workout, Sunday 16-22. Always a 36 hour break between Sunday and Monday run. Monday-Friday I’ll row 3000 to 5000 meters as a cool down after the run.

I start my new program next week. Been at 30mpw for about 2-3 months now. Will be bumping up to a peak of 40-45 here soon. 10k 7:00/mi goal in Nov.

Thanks, HB. Since I don’t have age on my side, I gotta grind to hit those times to be competitive with the cats that got me on the age advantage.

For the first time on my Garmin Coach app, the confidence level that I will be able to beat my half marathon goal of 1:44:00 (8 minute per mile pace) has moved to "Extremely Confident", and it gave me a message saying that perhaps I should go for a more challenging goal.

I have yet to fail any of the workouts yet... I had no trouble this morning on the progression run which had a 20 minute run pace of 9:00 then 15 minutes at a 6:55 pace.

I also destroyed the goal pace run earlier in the week, which required me to run 25 minutes at my goal pace of 8:00, in which my average pace for the 25 minutes was 7:30.

I think I will keep the goal at 1:44 for now but see what I do on August 28 for the actual half marathon.
