4 miles (7:00/mi) on the mill at Reds. Surprisingly enjoyable compared to the humidity outside

Try 18 miles sometime

Track intervals this morning.

15 min WU
15x400m @ 5K Pace w/200m Jog
10 min CD
Ended up with 8 mi in total. Felt great throughout, kept each 400 at ~1:40.

5K next Sunday, aiming for sub 21 but will be happy with 21

21 ultra runners dead in China due to extreme weather hitting during the race. Super sad.

If you really think about it Ultras can be rather risky. Remote location, rugged terrain, crazy weather changes with such short notice, etc. After reading this article I thought about one race my GF and I did. Beaverhead 100k on continental divide. at one point the trail is scree field for 4 miles at elevation 9-10k. if something bad were to happen half way through this section it would take at least an hour for someone to get back to the previous aid station or to the next to let race crew know help was needed. Then most likely getting a helicopter ride off the mountain. There are races that require you to carry some survival gear but not many. Something to think about is what you might want to carry in your pack when you take on one of these challenges.

10x1K between 5-10k pace 4x4 faster than 5K pace. 3 up 3 down.

Edit: race day is only six months out. Time to get motivated.

Feels like Fall out there again. Put in an 8 mile recovery run with the run group this AM. Y’all get outside while you can! Coolest Memorial Day weekend I can ever remember.

What was it like down there? Up here it was unseasonably cool to start the morning, but I wasn't complaining about high 40s and no wind. If I didn't have something to do today I'd probably double my distance.

For those runners who are inclined to dedicate their miles, check this link out.

I personally run (well, ran and now walk) for a soldier who was an alum of my high school. It keeps his name and memory alive and his family I now consider friends (he was about 10 years younger than me so I never knew him).

Check it out.

wear blue; run to remember It was started by Lisa Hallet, whose husband was killed in action.

5K PR this past Sunday in Orange Beach. Chip time was 20:57 which was good for 3rd place in my age group and 13th overall. Winning time was 16:48 by a 19 y/o from Baton Rouge. Not a widely competitive race, but fun.

Lesson learned, if you see someone in front of you headed to the finish line, find that last bit and get in front. Had a guy in front of me during the final 200 or so and sprinted in front of him besting him by 00:02. Turns out he was in my age group and would have put me in 4th had I not passed him.

I went out a little fast, settled in sometime between miles 1 and 2, and started passing people in mile 3. Besides starting out at sub 6 pace for the first 1K, I stuck to the plan of 6:40-6:45 and tried to be consistent.

Don't know how many of y'all follow him, but Sage Canaday just posted that what he thought was pneumonia for the last 4 weeks was actually a pulmonary embolism in both lungs. He's in the hospital now after waking up with chest pain on Sunday

Unstructured track workout during a down week. 5K at about 90 percent then 4 speed quarters.

By the way, I’m only posting this shite so you guys can get some ideas for workouts. If it’s not useful, I’ll stop. Fartleks will only take you so far.

Great job! We all started somewhere. I believe my first 5K was something similar.

So I ran another 3.12 this morning, but I tried running intervals for the first time. Second day in a row I ran a 5k. I’d kick into high gear (6:30 pace) and then stop and walk when I’m out of breathe. Wasn’t too bad but damn my legs felt like logs when I picked up the speed. I think it may be a bit harder to pick up my speed, but I’ve come this far, might as well keep going to see what I can do.

Any comments or critiques? Not sure how interval training supposed to go, but it whooped me today but my entire 5K pace was still right under 10 min.
