This is good advice. Thanks.
I have this completely arbitrary goal of 300km in January then I'm going to drop back to more diverse run locations, formats, paces, distances, elevation gains, etc.
Ultimately, my goal is to hit summer alpine season at full throttle and and crush summits easily.
And of course the obvious health benefits of a consistent cardio routine.

Anybody watch the Hoka Carbon X2 event today on YouTube? Walmsley missed the 100k WR by... 11... seconds. Felt bad for the dude, he left it all out there. Incredible effort. Shoulda had on Vaporflies!

Watched the end. Just from how his left shoulder looked, whatever accident he had at the beginning was probably 11 s worth of time

Do actually enjoy watching these small, weird events with him because of how much time he spends yelling at himself towards the end of races. Makes me wonder if he does it during trail races and if he’s ever encountered some family out for a hike while he’s hauling arse and screaming at himself

And checking his damn watch. I was yelling at my TV when he was pressing buttons on his watch during the last damn 5K. He should have had somebody telling him distance left/splits, etc. I mean damn. No on track timer or anything.

And his shoulder was from him running around some slower women on the track and he grazed a fence. Around 30K I think. He stopped to piss earlier in the race. Cost him 40 seconds.

I’m pretty sure Eric on the smart-ish car threw in a “just fricking run” when he was screwing around at the end.

Think Eric was keeping track, but I also think they were slightly off from the official time at one point, so idk what was going on. Guess they didn’t expect it to be that close?

Started trying to build back mileage and have some fun runs and my Achilles started bothering me. It’s like I can’t run fast (for me) anymore without my tendon flaring up. I think some all-out sprints did me in.

I can still run on it but i am going to drop my mileage 20% for a week and take out any tempo and see how it goes.

I would like to build up to around 50 mpw if I can before I start my next training block. My best week last year was in the mid 40s.

Today was all about hitting a 20 mile weekly minimum during the winter. Since I didn't run yesterday I needed to do 7+ today with it being 20°F and a wind-chill in the teens. Finished 8.25 miles over an easy pace. I've noticed the only part of my body that gets painfully cold is my left index finger; it pretty much stiffened to the point where I no longer felt the burn.

Whew long night in Tyler, TX at running the rose. I showed up at 4:45pm and settled in. My buddy came in off of his 4th loop at 44mi at 6:15, dude was wrecked with hamstring and knee issues.

We took off at 6:30pm and struggle shuffled out the last 2 laps for the final 22 miles of the 108k finishing 12min before cutoff at 2:48am.

Hell of a training session for me. 8 hours in the dark, rain, cold, slow.

Hopped in my truck at 3am and was in bed at 4:45am.

Very nice Polar , happy to see your work pay off and have some people out there doing in-person events.

Coach and I set up my final 4 week plan & 2 week taper for my March 6 full.

What is different this time versus White River ? Added 2nd 16 mile run, 6-8 more miles per week to get me @ 47-53, longer run at goal pace, & faster Wednesday speed work.

Biggest thing is total weekend miles are up. For White River I had long run on Saturday & Sunday off. I'm now looking at 16 + 8, 15 + 10 type weekends.

Rick

I think you will see big benefit from the back to back longer runs. The second day teaches you how to run on fatigued legs especially if you stick to the distance and pace on the first day. this approach is huge in training plans when you start going after 50 milers and up.

Ks_nola,

I asked for more and he agreed & explained exactly what you said. My plan with him is progressing to more advanced and he is really pushing the concept of cumulative fatigue.

I have shown that I'm doing the supplemental things like core work, stretching, nutrition and rest.

I have learned the concept of maxing out at 16 isn't to run a shorter plan, it is to open more days & runs to learn fatigued running.

Who am I to judge, but if I am running that far for a WW, I am pissing on myself full stride.

At least take it out and go while still running.

If you guys figure out how to piss without stopping, let me know how. It would save some time on long runs during downpours.

Recovered from the flu. I’ve lost a few steps since the shitty marathon attempt, but had a pretty good workout today in the snow. Shouldn’t take too long to get back in shape.

I almost took a number 2 during the last stretch of my long run the other day. Does anyone take an Imodium or something before long runs? Would that have any adverse effects? I can go before I run and still sometimes if I go far enough it hits me.

I used to have an emergency imodium with me when we'd go to cross country meets. Can't hurt imo
