Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into these. The trucker hats are too high for my head. I need something that will just about plaster to my bald head and not slip around or rest on the tops of my ears.

I decided to try out that Outdoor Research hat based on the reviews. I also ordered some running glasses. I really need to be more concerned about my skin and eyes. They should also help during rain and snow. That should just about remove all excuses from my list. I'm geared up for -30 with windchill to 130 heat index.

I decided to try out some Toreges. They had very good reviews for a budget brand. I didn’t want to spend 100-200 bucks on glasses. They come with 3 sets of lenses you can change out depending on the conditions. I’ll provide a review here after I get a chance to use them a few times in case some of you are interested.

Last but not least, I’m not going to go out of my way to have a miserable run or race. Of the in person races I’ve done or attempted this year, all were 15 or more degrees above average temps. frick that. Paying to be miserable because the weather hardly cooperates (especially in the south) is worse than paying to sit my arse on the couch.

Yeah, I’ve completely sworn off local races because although I’m significantly slower than you, my running goal is to run faster, and it’s absolutely demoralizing to run for months then wake up to a random 80 degrees at 6 AM race day (high of 85 today for evidence of unpredictability).

I’ve also made a resolution to avoid training for anything longer than a 10k between the months of May and November. According to Strava, I spent 32 hours running in June, which I am never doing again while I live in Southwest Florida.

I’ve run in a dozen hats and this is my all time favorite for trails or road. I forget it’s even on most of the time.

Under Armour Camper 2.0

And happy New Years everybody. Did a trail run this morning to hopefully kick this year off better than the whimper of last year. Really slow and out of shape but you have to start over somewhere.

I've been throwing around ideas for 2021 after Woodlands Full.

My Wednesday tempo/speed work has been really enjoyable for me. Having training miles at the 7:40-8:10 type range is much more fun than the 14+ long, slow, HR runs.

I'm going to focus on what I enjoy the most and find a balance.

Hello friends. I hope y'all are well.

What races are y'all contemplating running in 2021? I plan to run the Bay St. Louis half marathon in March (if it is ever rescheduled). If not, I will run the Hattiesburg half in April. I would like to run a half ironman in October or a the MS Gulf Coast full marathon in December after that.

I deferred my Pikes Peak Ascent from last year since it was cancelled, so I’m registered for that. Hopefully, it goes ahead since the sticking point last year was the transportation down (which is why the marathon was still run).

Just going to treat it more like a bucket list item instead of going in with any sort of expectations or really trying to prepare for it.

Looking at Chicago, but I’m skeptical the city will be open by fall. Have a 50k on three weeks, may try to get in a 50 miler in March. Really depends on how fast things start opening back up.

random 80 degrees

That’s why I think I’m going to bite the bullet an purchase a treadmill. The weather has become so unpredictable that I absolutely loathe waking up an knowing that whatever the prediction was 8 hours prior, there’s a better than good chance it’s changed completely. Nobody predicted rain as we speak (so much so that the weather station says it’s clear right now), it’s raining arse and windy.

And I’m with you on the local races. Now that I’m pretty quick, time to look nation wide for the good weather and competition. Time to race on our terms.

If anyone is interested in doing the Rerun 5x5k trail run in Navasota, TX let me know. I can get a small discount code for that.

Just researched and may target this event either solo or 2-person.

ETA qoute with event.

Is there a way to merge runs on Strava?

Every once in a while I do something midway through the run and my watch starts a new run. I can see on the map that pretty much the whole run got recorded, it’s just listed as 2 runs.

Other than delete them both and manually add one back, I don’t think you can.

I'm gonna try a race this summer with a format I've never done.

It is a 50k; however, each individual lap of the course has a cut-off. If you don't meet the cut-off for the lap, you are disqualified. Each lap starts together. So, if you finish the lap in 25 minutes, and the cut-off is 40 minutes, you get to rest for 15 minutes. Then, those who move on start the 2nd lap together. You keep going until you get to 50k.

I'm interested because it is the middle of summer, and running a 50k straight through would be horrible. I know, I tried last summer and failed.

Anybody done anything like that?

they have a few around texas. one in particular is a 4 mile trail loop that you have an hour to complete. at the top of the next hour you have to have finished and lined back up. faster you finish, longer you have to rest. they keep going till there's only one left. usually start Thursday night and then finish up by Sunday.

there's a lady that used to live near me that won quite a few Ultras OA on top several first place females that ran something insane like 200 miles that weekend.

pretty fun concept.

I tried my glasses out this morning just to see how they felt through a 4 mile run. I used the lowest tint lenses since it was dark. I seriously forgot that they were on my face after a 2/4 mile in, and I could see everything per usual. The only difference was that the wind didn’t my cause my eyes to water, and headlights were no longer blinding. I can’t wait to try the two other lenses on a sunny day. So far, I’m thrilled with this purchase for 21 bucks.

I got my cap yesterday. I haven’t had an opportunity to try it yet. There’s a chance of rain and snow tomorrow and Wednesday, so I’ll get to soon. It fits great though. It stays put but is really light weight and doesn’t rest on top of my ears. I think it will be perfect.

I went out to try to catch a few KOM but got nothing but second places. Last week a watch malfunction cost me one. Can’t get ahead like this.
