Who would have thought Chicken would be creepin' in the running/marathon training thread?

Don't let him fool you. He lurks. I think he's been doing some crazy ultras. I'm trying to get him to sponsor a trail run for us.

How’d the Tri go?

Chicken’s definitely got the Ultra build going on! Haha, and plenty of time to train I’d imagine, while the hamsters work.

Took a couple of days off after my last two bouts with the numbness. Figured it out. It was my zero drop Altras. Been wearing them daily for my 3 mile walks. Stopped wearing them and the numbness went away.

Ran a new route today. Much more climb than I initially anticipated. 550’ over 7 miles. Managed a 9:15 pace. Very happy with this given the results of my last two outings. 8:45 on my last mile that was flat.

Guess I’m stuck with the 4mm drop shoes. Whenever I’ve tried to go up or down on the drop, something bad has happened.

Where you at? I’m going to come to your hood if you’re getting almost 100 foot of gain per mile. I’m smack dab in the middle of the Ozark mountains and couldn’t get that in a 30 mile run.

BnG here’s the workout you were looking for:

This morning 1k 3k 2k 3k 1k @ B/t 5-10k pace 3 mins jogging rest 3 up 3 down

Overall 14.15 miles in 1:32

Cheers.

Edit to mention no stopping the watch for warm up, cool down, or rest.

Birmingham. We have some killer hills here that I never appreciated until I started running. We have two local races: Statue to Statue and Peavine Falls. Both are pretty brutal.

The Stone River Rd hill that is the killer on the Statue to Statue course is less than a couple of miles from my house. I try to run it once a month.

Come do the Statue to Statue 15K. Since the Birmingham Track Club puts the race on, there are always some serious people in the race. The course ends less than a mile from my house.

quote:

The course gently rolls and is generally downhill for the first six miles. Runners then head up a pair of hills that are among the most challenging you'll find. The reward for climbing the hills is a fast mile-and-a-half downhill finish that's sure to generate the quickest splits you've ever run. Yes, it's a challenging course but you haven't run Birmingham until you run the race we like to call The South's Toughest 15k!

Thanks Burt. I like that one. Adding it to the future run log.

Going to take a stab at a 5K TT on Friday. My son ran a 18:54 a couple of weeks back, and has been talking shite since then. I'm either going to beat that, or pull up with some 'shin splints' the moment I realize I can't.

I was in that area a couple months back to MTB. Great terrain. The days were long, so I didn't get a chance to run, but my buddy and I said we were going to make it a point to revisit and get some runs in.

That ones on my bucket list.my fave Birmingham race is still peavine. Mercedes is a well run marathon, I’m just not a fan of a double loop.

Tri went well. Small little off-road tri. It was basically a 3hr see how many laps you can get it. Pretty fun. I went way too hard on the bike and paid for it on the runs

I'm going to get chicken to put together a fun trail run for us. It took 12 years but I finally got him to open a home & garden board. I think I can get this trail run before 2025.

Oh yeah, I actually left Ponchy back in '88 but still was around the Hammond area a lot through the 90's. Damn I feel old now.

Went on a 4 mile fartlek run 20/40

Up and down hills in the mud and sand after the rain

Not fun 1 out of 10 do not recommend especially when starting at 6:30 am wearing head lamps

Burt - What happened with the 5K? I saw you ran sub 17:00 but didn’t seem too happy with it? I know you figured you were in low 16’s shape or what? Don’t be so hard on yourself Brah. I mean damn!

It was the reaction I knew I’d get that pissed me off. If I broke my workouts down to skip rest and warmups and just showed the running fast part, people would lose their fricking minds over them. Fart out a half assed 5k for a NYRR challenge I didn’t really want to do, and I get texts from people wanting frick the shoes I did it in. It’s tiring.

For context, I’ve ran a faster 5k in a 10k than the one on Saturday. Nothing special.
