Finished my highest mileage week of the plan yet @ 34 miles and I feel ready for the upcoming weeks. It is still exciting & enjoyable.

From here till taper it will be around 33-48ish. I know moving forward I'll need much stronger plans but I'm confident I can grind through August and make some gains around late Sep & early Oct with Hal Higdon Novice.

Hell yeah, keep it up!

Last week was a recovery week @31 miles. It was a bit of a struggle to get back into the swing of things. This week is looking like I can hit 35 no problem, which is where I'd like to be for August & September.

I really hope there will be some in-person races down South for you all in the coming months. I doubt there will be many, if any, up here before winter hits. NH has some guidelines for road races which could be doable, but I fear demand for participation will exceed availability.

I'm eyeing that race, but it's going to depend on if Mississippi remains on the NY's travel ban list.

Have a 50k race in 2 weeks. Just learned that it is actually happening. I figured it would be cancelled, so I'm pumped.

Have to adjust my pace on my training runs. I'm having a hard time slowing down.

a lot of the trail races have continued on.

good luck on the 50k. it's a fun distance, but in this heat it can be rough.

Yeah, it isn't the best time of year to do a 50k. However, with most things being cancelled in my area, this may be the only race I get to do for the rest of the year. I'm just gonna grit it out.

It is multiple laps of the same long loop. I may pack a set of dry clothes and change halfway through.

Figured I'd be useful for once and post a workout. Today's workout:

3mi warmup

12x Hill Intervals around threshold 70 secs, GAP about 50 secs faster. 2:30 jogging recovery 4% grade.

5 mins jogging recovery

4x200m speed pace w/1:30 jogging recovery

3mi Cool Down

Alright, I did it. After a few years with zero serious running thanks to chronic injury I ordered a pair of shoes and 3" split shorts. I've tempered my expectations and I'm prepared to start from scratch, slowly this time. I was a sub-17 3 miler back in the day and I don't know if I'll ever get back to that but I'm going to enjoy the journey. I just want to run again.

I'm going to be much more mindful of cross training, injury prevention, warm-up/cool down, and especially doing too much too soon.

Let's ride

I need to find some elevation for hill repeats. My only option close is a bridge over the train tracks that peaks at maybe 65 ft and the entire bridge is ~.5 mi.

Did a little over 7 yesterday. Planning for 4-5 today. It's hot.

Speed, form, and strength. The quick intervals at the end teach me to hold form while also training my body what running fast while tired feels like.

Are you doing this on a treadmill or do you just have a long hill to run up?

I’m spoiled for choice on hills where I live. I keep it below 6 but above 2 percent grade, and it’s a rough gps estimate.

Had a new first today. I’m really trying to get back into more consistent runs in August and was a little over a mile into a run when my hamstring just gave me the middle finger and told me I was done. In 4 years of running I have never had an instance where my legs just stopped running and I had to walk home.

That sucked.

Is this lactate threshold?

Seems like a good workout to use when transitioning from introductory to fundamental training during a cycle. I will try it out in a few weeks.

Any of you Arky boys recommend an area in NWA (specific places if possible) for my wife and I to vacation for a week or so in the beginning of November? Had vacation for the Bama game, but who knows if that will happen and in what capacity, etc.

We'd be looking for a cabin in the mountains type deal. Do some exploring, hiking, etc... I'll probably post on the travel board, but figured I'd ask since I "know" y'all and that's y'all stomping grounds.

Not an Arkansas boy, but I know that Eureka Springs is a pretty popular destination for NWA area. There are a lot of nice trails for running and hiking and other outdoor activities there and probably some decent lodging options for the fall.

There is also shopping and gambling and stuff in town if you are interested in some of that. People from my neck of the woods (those with taste, unlike the Branson bores) go there from time to time due to its relatively close proximity. I'm considering checking it out sometime myself.
