So you basically run up and down mountains for 3 days straight?

No, it starts in different waves the evening of the first day and runs through Death Valley to Mount Whitney.

Last year's winner finished in 21:33 and was the only one who finished in less than 24 hours. I think the cutoff is 48 hours.

The race used to be 146 miles long, with a climb up Mt. Whitney, but now it ends at the trailhead to Mt. Whitney.

Another COLD morning with the Bham Run Group this AM. My left knee has been bothering me, so I opted for the 7 miles over the 12.

Run was great. Met some cool people again. I’m noticing a trend on these group runs: we keep doing reverse splits on the homeward stretch. He run group is the 9-12 min group. We start that way, but never finish that way.

Last week, I had to pace with a guy that’s been running for 30 years and we turned in 8/miles over the last four. Today, we had some middle school kids that got up front and paced us in at 8:20/mile.

It was a social organized by the Bham Track Club. Bought some swag while there and won an entry into a local 10K/half. They gave away a bunch of free entries into races this AM. Kid fun run and the whole deal. It was great.

Question: my left knee bothers me after running last two weeks. I think it’s from some box jumps and kettlebell swings that I had been doing. I’ve stopped those now. Today, I noticed it was bad after the run, but some stretching made it virtually go away. Plan on taking next week off (probably just walk some miles and EASY elliptical miles). I’ve been stretching, icing, and heating. Also picked up some glucosamine/chondroitin. It doesn’t hurt when I walk at all. Figure it’s a fatigue issue. Anything else I need to do? Need to make sure this isn’t an issue by April 4th.

Left knee. Looking straight down on it, it’s on the left outside of the knee where the two bones come together. Left hurts. Right is fine.

I figure it’s stressed from box jumps and kettlebell swings. It’s fine until after I run. Never bothers me during or before.

Do the kettlebell swings or box jumps hurt while your doing them? The pain sounds like it’s on the outside of your knee, could possibly be IT band syndrome.

They don’t hurt, but feel different. Running doesn’t hurt until I stop. It’s weird.

Think it’s the IT band. Googled some stretches and instantly felt better. I’ll take next week off and do the stretches and exercises every day next week.

Love this board.

Try the stretches and ease back into running after you rest. Foam rolling the IT band can be helpful as well. Hopefully this will resolve the issue for you.

14 days until I'm back

Rough schedule gives me this -->

If I get MCM lottery , my first week of the plan would be June 7th.

That gives me 13 weeks to ease back into it from March - June.

I need to do multiple things in that 13 weeks ..

1.Focus on form to make sure this injury does not linger and impact my stride

2.Do the best I can on each run with my current level of fitness, not try to chase my times from December ( I was feeling great @ 1:43:00 half pace and getting stronger)..I'm not there and that is ok...focus on now and tomorrow

What I do have in my back pocket is no weight gain, much stronger from gym work, and a huge desire to get back out there.

Your be will be picked in the MCM lottery. I don't think the race hit the max number of registrants after lottery day, and last year's rainy conditions might turn off some from re-registering for this year's race.

Just go ahead and pencil it in on your calendar.

It'll be great to have you back, RS.

Kyle, I've never done that race but I love that area. The picture in my sig was taken at sunrise from the Tuckaleechee Retreat Center in the big house on top of the mountain. We stayed there for a friend's wedding.

Looks like the group has shifted into gear with a 1000 mile week. Those were rare for a while.

McVick,

Thanks for the advice and I'll be happy to make the trip and get the most out of it for a family vacation.

The rain seemed to kill everyone last year but based on your Strava & posts it seems like a good experience for you.
