4.9 miles total this morning. 1/2 mile warm up. Walked until heart rate got down. 3.1 miles at 8:43 pace ( lost a lot of fitness, but it's a start). Walked a bit more then 3/4 mile cool down on the way back to the house.

Using that 5k to base my training paces currently at

Easy/Recovery ~11:00/mile
Tempo ~9:00/mile
Marathon ~9:45/mile

Hoping as weather cools and fitness increases I can get back down to

Easy/Recovery ~ 10:30/mile
Tempo ~8:30/mile
Marathon ~9:00/mile

Running those easy paces is tough. It's so slow. But I saw some big increases following that plan from the coach I had for Ironman. Not using a coach anymore, but continuing on with the same process. Hoping when I re-test in 4 weeks I'll see a big improvement.

I know the results show up, but I don’t know how y’all can run the super slow paces...I feel more tired/sluggish during a slow run and they take so much longer.

I feel good I think 30-45 seconds slower than 1/2 marathon race pace

It does kind of suck during that run. It's all about having more available for the next run. Not wearing yourself out to the point you can't get the mileage in.

I spent a lot of time running 10:30 per mile around January and February this year with some tempo and speed work intelligently placed in there. Ran a half in March and it was easy for me to break 2 hours (my goal). I actually left too much on the table. I became a believer in that race.

Running 5 today after work. Up tempo. Hope the rain holds off.

Got some new shoes and they have been great. Fuel cell impulse by New Balance.

Experienced runner problems first hand today.

When you get denied the ability to give blood because your heartrate is too low

PSA: If your heartrate is below 50 and it's your first time giving blood, they will deny you without approval from your doctor. My heartrate was 48.

Interesting

My 1/2 PR is 1:37

I’d like to try and break that in the spring

What are some good suggestions on what you guys eat before a long run? I'm starting to get into the 6.5+ miles runs and starting to get sluggish towards the end.

2 miles running or cross training option on the plan today, so I opted for some speedier work, at my next 5K goal pace. Balance based Yoga beforehand and about to hit the gym now.

.5 Mile warm up
1 - 7:29
1 - 7:35
Cool down

Question for you experienced guys re: long run. Should I be doing this weekly long run at my target HM goal pace? Slower? I'm 4 weeks into a 14 week HM plan and it's pretty vague pertaining to intensity/pace.

In Daniels Running Formula he says that long runs should be at easy pace, judging by your VDOT

That's happened to me as well. The last time I went to give blood, I did 20 push-ups outside before I went in. Automatic 20+ bump in HR.

It may be more of an individual thing, but I can eat pretty much anything as long as it is two hours before I run. If I don't have time to eat that far ahead, I'll eat a banana and take a couple of GU packs with me.

How do you all feel about running in the rain? I hate going out to run when it is raining, but I absolutely love it when it starts raining after I have warmed up and started sweating.

Same here. I enjoy it once I get going. Very refreshing; got caught in it today.

Oatmeal w/honey or Stroopwafel or steal one of my kid's Cliff Z bar.

sometimes nothing and bring a gel and use it if I need it. If I'm going 10+, I'm bringing a gel no matter what.

Just finished my five mile Wednesday run. A erage pace was 9:02 with splits of

9:07
8:56
8:54
9:23
8:54

in 92° heat. Temp isn't supposed to break until a week from today. Not looking forward to the rest of my runs this week.

My go to long run meal was a banana, honey and peanut butter sandwich.

But I’m like the others in that I can eat pretty much anything as long as it’s 2 hours before.

If I’m doing a long run in the early morning, I’m just eating a banana and honey waffle and bringing GUs with me.

Maybe a few espresso beans too.

PB&J is a good food for me before activity. Anything 90 minutes or longer, and I try to get a gel in every 45 or so minutes.

Just checking in. I have been swimming and doing other non-run workouts because it got freaking hot and humid this week. I knew th past couple weeks of prefall were an aberration. My knee has also been hinting that they need a rest. Last excuse, slammed with work.

I NEED a long aerobic run. No carbs required for me for those.
