I agree. Makes my shins hurt.
As for the question about the plan, I’m doing a plan based on Higdon’s Novice I. It’s pretty much the same except I added two 11 mile runs rather than stopping at 10 miles.

Think I used Higdon’s novice 2 for my half in December, definitely had me ready. Ended up finishing at 1:51 8:30ish/mile. Exceeded my own expectations.

My next race, I plan to do more advanced training, including tempo runs, sprints, and easy runs. Right now, I'm just running and trying to get under a 9:09 pace per mile so I can beat 2:00:000 in the half.

That dude ran a marathon and a 10k up a mountain at what would be a full sprint for me.

Oh, and anyone here doing the Rock’n Roll NOLA? Might be a late entry for the 10k.
Doing the 1/2. Training has been kind of half-assed because of work/life.

I known the TD Strava group is competitive and the year-end leaderboard matters-->
What is the consensus on treadmill miles not validated by Garmin? Are they good to track & post ?

They count for everything except challenges, I believe.

Anyone running in the Bay St. Louis half marathon on March 21?
I ended up signing up for this one today. It should be a good warm-up for the Hattiesburg Half on 4/4. That will be my fourth half out of five this season. Not bad for having only run one half before in 2016. Reading this board and signing up for Strava has added some motivation.

Stretched out passed my normal 8 miles this weekend. Got in 10.5 miles. Legs turned to jello at mile 9.
I still have a lot of work to do. 15K is April 4th. 1200ft of elevation gain.

You’ll do fine. Two months is a long time and you’ve been doing really well.
Last week of “beast mode” this week and then I got a recovery week set up for the race.
New place I’m moving into has electronic locks. Not having to carry a key is going to be a game changer for my runs.

Awesome
I am going to get new running shoes this weekend after my six-miler. I may get a Garmin watch later on. Not sure. I like the simplicity of running with a basic Timex Ironman.

Cool. I have a feeling you’ll outpace me.
I started with a Garmin 305 (GOAT basic multi sport GPS watch) and went through the Vivoactive, then my wife got me the Apple Watch 3 when they came out. It’s nice to not have to carry my phone or an iPod because my tunes are on my watch.

I’ve been looking at the Timex Ironman GPS and Garmin 35. I don’t like the square faces though. The Timex isn’t Bluetooth compatible, which stinks.

Thanks.
I start the Higdon Intermediate 15K plan this week. He has (4) run days, (1) gym day, and (2) rest days. My only modification is (3) run days, (2) gym days, and (2) rest days. He has a light run day on Thurs that's never greater than 4 miles. Dropping that for a gym day. Keeping the long runs and the speed work schedule.

I got this week off to a good start with an easy 4-mile run this morning. I was a bit surprised at how much fitness I have after several weeks of inconsistent running. I was starting feel a little depressed about losing all of what I built in the fall with those 30, 40, 50 mile weeks. I'm bound and determined to get serious this week.
My goal this time around is to get more LT training in and start it earlier in small doses. I have plenty of speed, and my aerobic fitness is always solid come race time because I log a lot of miles and make sure to really run 80% of my volume in zone 2 at least until I'm past the halfway point in my training plan. My weakness last time was my lactate threshold and race specific endurance.

What’s the next goal race?
Posted on 1/27/20 at 3:05 pm to TigeRoots
I'm working on a 5K PR. As long as I keep improving at that distance, I will probably stick with it until I break 20 minutes. Then, I will go back to training for longer distances.

This is also my current goal. I came close in November 20:02 and I was planning on hitting it this past weekend but a bout of the flu shut me down for 10 days and what I could do the week leading up to the race was exhausting. I finished with a time of 21:03 and felt like I was hanging on for dear life the last mile.
Hopefully my training is back on track and I can find something around here in the next couple of months.

The hit me five years ago. I didn’t fully get my appetite and energy back for 3 weeks.
