Great job quail & Aubie + we have some people running in the NYC marathon so it will be great to see how they all perform.
Training wise, I just had my most mileage in a week and my body is 100% feeling fine. This gives me confidence to push it more going forward.
47 miles--> 13.1 , 5 , 4 , 7 , 4 , 14

Good luck to everyone running NYC this morning! Which seems to be most of you. You bastards. Yeah, I’m super jelly.

My brother is out on the track. Took the year off, don’t hate drinking beer and spectating. Will be back out there next year I think. Seems like the course is a struggle today even though the weather seems perfect.

Thanks Burt. It was a beautiful day. A little cold and windy but other than that it was perfect.
Started out way too fast and thought I could keep it going. Queensboro bridge killed my legs. Stopped to take a picture and thighs tightened up like I’ve never felt before. Pushed through as I had family on 1st Ave. Saw them, pushed along but the last 10 hurt bad. I’m proud that I finished, I wanted closer to 4:15, but I’ll save that for the next one. 4:37 isn’t terrible.
The course was tough, the elevation was a lot more than I prepared for. The crowds were amazing. The support staff along the course from water to gels to medical was awesome. I can’t say enough about how great the views are and beautiful the scenery is every borough.
My main issue, which I understood signing up, was the mass amount of people. You are constantly bumping into, running around, slowing down, etc for people. 53k is just a lot and it felt like they were all around me.

Watching the footage of people going across the Verizano is crazy. So many people. I don’t plan on starting fast at all next year. It looks like hell to pass anyone.

kballa6,
First, congrats on completing the NYC marathon. Huge achievement. It sounds like you had a great time and some ideal conditions for running.
I don't know about you, but I think I learned a lot from the marathon experience. I did not achieve my goal of a sub-4:00 but I wasn't discouraged with my finish. I have never felt my body quit the way it did, and it came with 8 miles to go. I feel like I will be more mentally prepared if I attempt another one and will train differently to get my body more physically prepared.
Rest, relax, and enjoy.

I feel the same way. I learned a lot. I think I underestimated the small elevation changes throughout and starting fast really killed my legs. I also felt cold the entire way. I was running but still had chills and my head felt like I had sinus pressure the whole way. I feel similar to how I did for my first half where I know I had a lot of room for improvement. My 14 min split of mile 16 is what I’m really bummed about.

I logged a 16:40 split for mile 24. I'm slowly moving away from it being a point of shame and using it as a reminder it can't get worse than that.

I'm starting to see it that way as well. Just trying to find a way to shave off 37 mins to get to 4. My medical tent stops at 18, 21, and 22 didnt help either for Biofreeze. That's a few mins there.
My plan was to start slow and speed up to finish like I had been doing on my long runs but that didnt happen obviously.

as of now, everybody has been very civil. can't guarantee that forever, but it's been a tight knit group with 0 IRL mess talking on there, or in this thread. I haven't had to, but i'll remove anybody acting like an a-hole.

Trying something a bit different to hopefully set me up for success in January.
Hal Higdon's plan has a half for Sunday and I have some flexibility in my miles.
I'm going to run the half on Sunday at my GMP , as steady as possibly, without taking 3 days off. I have a neighborhood 5K on Saturday and will run on my off day Friday.
I need to feel 9:07 for over 10 miles with some stress and not 100% fresh. I'm comfortable I can try this without risking overtraining, injury, or form breakdown since it's about 40 seconds/mile slower than my current half PR.

Fell off the wagon the past few weeks. Will start fresh tomorrow.
Signed up for my first trail race on Saturday, just 3 miles but should be fun.

Are you running Houston in Jan?
Irrational decision of the day yesterday was signing up for the full while still on my NYC high. I know I will regret that decision in 11 weeks.
