Y'all made me interested in my yearly amount. I had to go back and check my manual log and add it to Strava, since I only joined a couple of months ago. I'm at 1304 this year. I was a little surprised. More than I would have thought. Though this has been my first full year of committed running without significant layoffs between races, etc. I guess all those days added up.

I've tried to tolerate Goggins but can't. Can only take so much of rough upbringing, the struggle, nobody cares work harder, used to be fat, etc. It's the same shite over and over. I had a decent upbringing, love my parents and family and have never been fat, so maybe I can't relate. It's just him and Rogan stroking his ego constantly. Does nothing for me personally and I'm a pretty big JR fan. Same with Jocko or any of these intense motivation guys (wake up after 2 hrs sleep, eat a thumbtack sandwhich, run 30 miles to the gym, workout, run 30 miles back, etc...) Not taking anything away from their accomplishments, as I'll never remotely sniff what they've done. Obviously no offense to anyone who enjoys it as I know plenty who do.
BnG - Soon!
I'm around 580 miles since May when I started running again. Checked Strava and my Polar app that I had before Strava.

Same. I think I am going to try and participate in this thread next year.
I had a significant knee injury years ago that would hurt me to run, so I stopped for a while. Knee is better now, but still sore if I run longer than 5 miles or so or if I run 2-3 days consecutively. For that reason I have kind of taken on 5Ks, and as of this year 10Ks.
On the year, 262 miles, but some of those months were awful. I want to be at 500 next year, and I think it is doable. My 2 primary goals are sub 20 5K and sub 7 min/mile 10K. I think I can reach those goals with increased mileage.

Went to them in 2008. I haven't had an issue since. Well except when a shoe company changes the architecture of a shoe. Even if you have to come out of pocket, it's worth it.
They can give you a run analysis and point you in the right direction, correct you on everything, and give you a wealth of knowledge. They taught me you can never do too much core strength. All movement derives from core. Weak core, more likely to experience injuries. Secondly, most sport related injuries come about from a muscle imbalance. They can figure it out correct it. That's the main reason I do a lot of leg work on days I'm not running.

Theres no doubt I'd hate to hang around him. I think he knows hes an a-hole. Plus, he's got huge gaps in his own life that he isn't addressing (several divorces, etc.). But what I do like in his book is a few messages.
First is that most of us use a small percentage of our endurance ability. We mentally shut down long before our body does.
Second is you are never finished. I have a bad habit of finishing a race, then falling off the wagon hard. Or screwing up a diet, then saying well I'll get back on the wagon next month. He looks at it like there is no goal, then you are done. It's a neverending/keep getting better/this is just your life from now on mentality.

all of that rings really true. i'm a christian, so even though he doesn't take it from that approach, i do think that life not something to coast through and I believe there is no finish line. i find bad attitudes, excuses, and getting down on yourself only handicaps potential and that we're all way more capable of ourselves than we think.
a lot of it is mambo jambo, new agish stuff i don't really believe in, but i'm a huge fan of his "don't be a vagina" attitude. even if it's part of the act.
ETA: i find Joe Rogan's podcasts to be the best running podcast out there. i'm always fascinated, even if there's somebody politically 180 from me, to hear their side fleshed out. i usually find myself not even noticing how far i've gone during the middle of one and they're all over 1.5 hours.

Anybody use any type of special lacing? Runners heel lock?
I’ve been having some upper foot/ankle soreness and tenderness, so gonna give the Lyniard method a shot. I have always tightened my shoes extremely tight, probably to a fault there also.

I have not, but interested to hear more?
I had an issue during my marathon with the front of my ankle on one foot that rubbed or pressed odd and created pain

I've done the runners heel lock before. I just dont like my shoes all that tight. Tight enough for the heel not to move around in the shoe and that's about it. Not that the heel lock is a tighter way to tie, it's just securing closer to the ankle, which isn't seem necessary for me

Basically Lydiard lacing is thought to relieve upper foot and ankle pain caused by typical (tight) cross lacing, which crosses over and stresses the Metatarsal bones atop the foot. Tried it this am on an easy 4 miler, followed by strides. I was worried it may feel too loose, but all was good. As I mentioned, I was probably tightening my laces (cross) way too tight, but with the Lydiard method, you literally can’t tighten them at all really, once they are laced up.
Lydiard
Sure you are familiar with the runners heel lock but if not it basically uses a method of utilizing the last offset hole on your shoe lacing to lock down the shoe to the ankle. I use it because I have really small ankles. Gonna loosen it up also going forward.

I experienced some metatarsal pain after running in my Adizero Boston as a result of the thinner, almost non-existing tongue. I didn't switch to a Lydiard style, but one in which the laces no longer cross over at that point. I'm not sure the name of this particular style. You simply shoot the laces directly up tp the next eyelet, then continue crossing over once you are past the part of the foot you are experiencing discomfort. I never noticed any difference at all, but that may be due to the fact that I purchased these particular shoes to my foot's true size, and not a half size larger as I normally do.

i might try this on my NBs. i really like that shoe but the lacing for some reason has always been so blasted tight that i can't ever feel good on the top of my foot.
on the shoe front... went for a pretty long one in my skechers ultra road 2s today. my legs were pretty beat to death from some squats yesterday, but they were very easy on the feet.

Yeah, I’m going Lydiard on my pavement pounders, Ghost and Solar Boost (very stiff upper, I was about ready to retire them for this reason). Will probably stick with the typical cross lace pattern on my tempo/racers Escalante and Zoom Fly (both have knit uppers anyway, which don’t cause me any issues). Gotta get me a pair of Sketchers...
Posted on 12/19/18 at 5:14 pm to TigeRoots
The Zoom Fly gave me an issue, just on one foot. Not sure if my foot was swelling or string was too tight but it rubbed a sore right where the knot was tied

Good to know. Mine come in tomorrow. In general, I will definitely loosen my laces going forward. Been reading up a good bit on it. I think it’s more mental than anything for me to have my shoes hella tight when I run.

126 runs for 592 miles this year. Was planning on shutting it down for the year to heal up but I may have to knock out 8 for an even 600.
Is there a TD Strava group?

Mark me down for 2500 as a goal for next year towards the group goal.
I can’t express enough how this group has helped me since I joined. The support and general good vibes have been priceless in my journey back into running.
It honestly is better than trying to get in with a local group because let’s face it, most local running groups are pretty exclusionary, and runners in general are kinda dicks.
I’ve improved my 5k by 2 minutes since joining and my 15k by almost 4 minutes.
I’ll be running my first road half in a little over 1 week and I have more confidence going into it than I would have with out this group.
Merry Christmas TD runners!
Also, if you need a second admin for the Strava group, I volunteer my services.
Cheers!

Well said, BRM. I'll just second all of that. This is a great group. Really appreciate the support and enjoy watching everyone hit their goals. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.
And good luck on that half next week - we know you're gonna crush it!

This thread and Strava group have been perfect for me. I mostly like running by myself to escape from the chaos that is my house. I have some friends that I run with occasionally, but it's difficult to find people that are on my running level and have the same goals as me. Most of my buddies crush me on tempo or faster runs. Then I have some friends that are telling me to go on after just a mile. I don't get in enough running days to bother with all of that.
