Why do you guys dislike Rupp so much? Yeah, he can be somewhat of a bitch, but he's basically America's top distance runner in a sport dominated by foreigners.

I signed up to run the Woodlands marathon in case any of you guys wanted to meet up the night before or evening of.

Went to doctor yesterday. Said I'd be fine to start running again. 5 easy miles yesterday. Cant make it .1 miles without shooting pains in my knee that stop me in my tracks. Looks like this years marathon plans are done .

Going to PT today. But I'm thinking I take off 4 weeks or so to make sure this heals up.

That sucks man. Always better to get healthy though than push it and really injure yourself. Is it IT Band issues?

That's what they say. Doc said MRI from last Monday was lit up with inflammation where the IT meets the knee. But the meds made everything feel fine over the last week. Last post I made is confusing, but ran 5 yesterday and didn't feel anything for first 3 miles. Some issues in the last 2, but not bad. Then overnight got worse. Couldn't make it out the driveway this morning without pain worse than it's ever been.

My deal was 5 miles every day this week or no race. Going to be near 4 weeks with almost no running and only 30 days out from race. Making up that build I missedis only likely to get me hurt again even if I do heal up from this one.

Got in 5 this morning at around 7:45 pace. Brutal winds/cold in the city this morning. Don’t see how people run in shorts in this. I didn’t break a sweat.

At 925 miles for the year, well past my 800 mile goal. Aiming for 1k next year.

Like 6 a day? NBD

And it was a feels like around 18 this morning. I can do shorts in the 40s but below that I just can’t do it.

That's no small feat. Not that anyone here would downplay that, as we have a great group of guys, but don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Unless you live in So. Cali, 1K miles means you ran in some cold, dark mornings, many hot arse evenings, and probably through some nagging injuries. Great job man.

I'm going to break 700 this year, which is the most since turning 30 five years ago. Going to set my sites on 1K for next year. Told myself I was going to get a long run in on News Years day to get the year started right. That should be an interesting one.

All true BnG! And nothing really against Rupp. Certainly pull for him vs The World, but wouldn’t mind seeing some more likeable guys on that stage also. Just MO.

As far as Woodlands, I didn’t realize it was Mardi Gras weekend. Many of my colleagues take vacation around that time, meaning I’ll need to be around for work reasons. That said, it’s not completely out, but will be a game time decision a couple weeks out.

Hope you can get healed up before too long. I've heard it just takes time with IT issues. Best of luck with the recovery.

I was dealing with IT band issues earlier in the year, when I came across this article. Might not be applicable to you, but it persuaded me to make some changes to my running form that fixed my IT band issue almost immediately. Worth the read even if you don't have cross-over gait.

Wish I would have joined Strava earlier in the year to see my total mileage (don’t think I’d be near 1000 though)

I would hate to be a high school runner these days and have my coach track my mileage online. Half the fun in CC and track season was getting over on our coach. The other half was chasing tail at the meets.
