Couldn’t have said that better myself, BnG. Agree with all of y’all, actually. We got a good thing going and hope everyone has Happy Holidays as well.

Now if only we can reel Salmon in from the Poli and OT Lounge and get his tight arse to buy a watch to link to Strava...

Burt - was going to wait to get my run in till the Zoom Fly FK came in today, but looks like rain and wind this afternoon so got it in early. Anticipation is real...

Yeah I'm glad I jumped into this thread as well. Like I've said before, seeing you guys crush has given me motivation to run more and get better myself. I've basically changed my motivation from finishing a half, to actually focusing on beating a time.

And it feels good when I get a notification that one of you guys gave me kudos on a run.

I honestly check this thread more now than I check the OT. Lol.

Yeah, I got mine and they’re just sitting there. I’m not gonna touch them until race day. They look so good; better than the pictures.

because let’s face it, most local running groups are pretty exclusionary, and runners in general are kinda dicks

I've tried to join a few local run groups over the years, but never found them very welcoming, so yea I agree. But I also like running by myself. The only thing I have trouble doing on my own is speed work. I may reach out to a few faster runners I know, to join them for some speed work every other week or so.

The plan this winter and spring is to run 5-6 5k races and try to get my time as close to 20:00 or under as I can. Two years ago I was in the low 21:00s when I got injured, and I seem to be in shape to make another run at it. Then I plan to run a half in the fall and a marathon next winter.

Merry Christmas and I hope Santa leaves you all some cool running gear!

Ran in the alter-g treadmill where they can remove weight to allow you to get a little running in while injured. PT had me warm up on it for 10 min. Ran with 30% of my bodyweight taken off. I need to lose 50 lbs. Made running a lot easier

Ha, I bet that feels weird. What's your ht/wt?

I think I'm going to go have gait analysis done after the 1st of the year. Same guy does some nerve conduction stuff also, so going to talk to him about my winged scapula while I'm there. I'd like to begin a working relationship with a local running doc/therapist, so this will help.

I'm 5'11" and ~175# at the moment. When I first started triathlons, I got down to like 162#, so I know it's a decent weight for me. I've been cutting back on the calories since I had to stop running. Trying to stick with that and get back down to 165ish. You don't realize it when you lose the weight gradually, but when someone takes it off immediately, you see the difference. I've run on that machine with just 10-15 lbs taken off and it's very noticeable.

That’s the exact height/weight I’m at right now

I’d like to be down to about 165 by end of May for race if I can do it without losing energy.

Got in 4 miles @ 6:39 today

Overall, do you like the plan you're following? Anything about it you wish was different? Most importantly, do you feel like you're seeing the improvement you were hoping for?

I have multiple thoughts I suppose:

1. I’m only about 6 weeks out post Marathon, I feel like it definitely took me a couple of weeks just for my system to recover and don’t feel like I’m where I was physically pre marathon

2. This is only third week of training with him, and the first week where I feel he has really challenged me. I think he’s just been kind of seeing what I can handle with speed and mileage up to this point. This week has been serious!

3. We have started some things that I wasn’t doing before, which I feel definitely needed to be done. Those include running 5 days a week instead of 4 and adding strength training for lower body. Those alone should help me improve.

4. I’m already doing ~33 miles a week now and we are still a month + from marathon build up. My max week of mileage during last buildup was 43 I think so I will be starting from a much better spot

5. I feel like I would add some intervals that are faster with more rest (like maybe 800s or even mile repeats at like 90-95%) but I don’t know that would honestly be any better or not

Got an easy 5 miles in this morning with my wife and her friend. Wife is still recovering from a hysterectomy in September. Still getting her up to speed. We took a walk break at mile 3, left the clock running, and still averaged a sub 12:00 pace for the total run which is great for her.

Good job, Scooby. Damn good weather today.

Got in 4 easy, had trouble keeping it easy, kept speeding up and hitting my next zone. Slipped on the Zoom Fly for another mile to test them out. Definitely different. Will take some getting used to. Felt better at 7:00 pace than 7:45. Not sure if these are feasible for me at HM pace. Definitely suited for 10K and under for me from what I can tell so far. Gonna wear them for a few workouts this week also.

I think you’d end up being just fine. Probably be able to maintain better than you imagine for the amount of time
