Yep, I got it in which is all that matters. It was a run that I could forget though. Had to really pump myself up to get out of the house

Stringed, congrats on the race, man. Now you can sit back and enjoy the pain for the next few days - you earned it!

Brazos Bend 100 was/is a sloppy cold wet mess. Volunteered at one of the aid stations earlier and there was misery in excess.

Yeah BB100 is a mess. Made worse by cold rain in TX the last few days.

Good job to stringed and BRM today. Stringed, I know that pain man. Mile 10 is when the monkey gets on my back every time. Enjoy some beer and good food. I ate an entire pizza after my first half.

Did 12 miles today over 2 runs. Had a lot of fun on both. 5.5 Squishy and sloppy trails and then a cold and misty 6.5 road miler with a friend.

Started off the week pretty bad with a lot of missed runs and sleeping in but had a good finish.

Lol to myself.
I ran 18 miles today in a 45 degree rain. Lots of rain.
Dodging puddles and cascading water. Got dark on me and trying to avoid cars and having to run through soggy yards. Hands were so cold I couldn't hardly move them by the end of the run.
Thankfully I had at least a windbreaker on to mitigate some of the rain. Plus I had plastic Target bags in my shoes to attempt to keep my feet dry.
I'm not sure I've had a more miserable run in my entire life.

I know you should feel miserable after those runs but they sustain me. I think back to all the times I struggle to finish a 3 miler in the heat of summer and how much easier wet and cold are. Absolutely love that feeling of finishing after a cold miserable run where you are drenched to the core.

1. sex
2. Bacon
3. That feeling.

That being said I was running with gloves and a water proof north face jacket. Still soaked but my core was warm. Maybe I’m just weird that way.

My morning run ended with very wet feet. Unavoidable. I am running trails in these ASICS that expunge water with every step. You can’t dry your socks out obviously but it dries out the overall foot in a hurry. After going through a puddle I don’t even notice a wet foot 2 minutes later.

I don't know. I've complained enough about hot runs, for sure, and further, there is 0% chance I could run 18 miles on a hot, sunny day. I literally would have a heat stroke.

But, today was just awful. A run like this for a 3 miler wouldn't have been nearly as bad, but today it was just the cold soaking rain that went on for 3 hours. (no, I'm not too fast)

However, it was nice when I got back I got home and into the bathtub (that the wife had prepared). When I first got in, the water felt painfully hot. Then after a few minutes, the water actually felt too cool.

Damn dude, my wife will barely unlock the door for me after I get back from a run. Not that I take baths anyway...

She told me to shower as soon as I got home yesterday. Not in a gentle way.

Just finished up a 4 mile run, pace 10:36 which is pretty good for me right now over that distance. Could have been faster but I had to stop halfway thru mile 1 and mile 4 to make sure a dog that hates me didn't bite me.

I guess this was more of a tempo run because my half marathon pace will probably be around 11 minutes. It's there a target HR y'all try to stay at on tempo runs, or just try to hit a pace?

tempo run

Rule of thumb is 30 seconds slower than your 5K pace. But what do I know? Every time I try to give advice or experience to someone who asks, I'm countered with 200 meter sprints.

So the answer is 200 meter sprints.

Nine and a half today to get moving and keep the swelling down on the knee when I ate it yesterday.

Also, good run; hope you keep getting it man.

Got in 5 on Friday and Saturday. Trying to ease into it. Plan was 5 this morning and 5 this evening, and if knee pain was manageable, get back into it. Well, seems like this is going to be a multi week issue. Looking really shitty for a January Marathon at the moment. Going to a doctor next week who will hopefully pump me full of prescription anti inflammatory drugs.

Thanks. I'm going to try. I'm trying to decide which half marathon to run. I'm down to the Louisiana Marathon in the middle of January, or the OLOL Amazing Half Marathon in March. I did the OLOL 10k a few years ago, and would like to try for the Louisiana Marathon because I've heard it's a great event. But I don't know if I'm going to be ready for all 13.1 miles in just 6 weeks.

Got in 14 easy this am. 9:04 pace, 36F feels like, 20 mph wind. Nice and brisk. No wetness however, so not too bad at all.

Y’all saw Camille Herron set the 24 hr record with 163 ish miles at Desert Solstice? Deezam.

Keep it up bud.

And FTR, as far as Strava tells us BRM is the best runner of us all. Not to put him on a pedestal but I’d heed his advice.

So just full out 200m sprints with like a 1:00 rest between? How many?

We have some cold weather warriors in this group. We should set a Strava group mileage goal for 2019. Probably somewhere in the ballpark of 10,000 to 15,000 miles.

Put in a13 mile progression run. I know I'm doing to many of these, but they're fun and make me feel better about my slow arse starts.

No, man.

The 200 meter sprints was a joke I was making about other threads.

Seriously, your tempo pace should be near 30 seconds slower than your 5K race pace but not everyone is the same. So it could be 25 seconds slower, could be 40.

The best description of what a tempo feels like is "uncomfortable but sustainable for an indefinite period of time".

DO NOT go run a bunch of 200s while building your base.
