1:42 trail half marathon...that dude is quick!

That is swift. Wonder how the weather was, could make the time even more impressive. It’s awful here in central AR - raining, windy, and right at 32 degrees. I’m trying to figure out when to get in my 16 mi long run this weekend. I’m not really feeling like getting out in this

Sup guys! Thanks for the well wishes. 32, overcast, and windy as hell. Back half had some steep ones boy.

The guy that came in first must have beat me by a mile because I didn’t see him again after mile 2.

Wish I could have been fresher; had to drive to St. Louis and back yesterday. Sub one forty would have been stupid good.

ETA forgot to mention that I ate shite on mile 6. Lol

Sounds perfect for trail run. I’m excited for my upcoming trail race.

Trail races should have a weird mix of misery and fun IMO

Is that Brazos race near you this weekend

Not that close. It’s south of Houston. Spectrum, Tejas Trails, and TROT do a bunch of races near me throughout the year.

Good job Bert. Well done.

I finally took a week off, was more so because I was in Minnesota all week for work and wasnt feeling the treadmill. Got in 3 miles this morning back home.

Going to have to suck it up next 3 weeks and treadmill it. Winnipeg for work and then Colorado for holidays. I am not equipped for outside runs there.

I. Run. 26.2.

Ran the Rocket City Marathon this morning in Huntsville. 40 degrees with a wind chill of 34 and steady rain. I’ve never in my life met a challenge like running a marathon.

PR’d my 10k - 57 minutes
PR’d my half - 1:53 (first sub-2 hour half marathon)

Can anyone see where this is going?

Final (unofficial) Marathon time - 5:06:24.

I was feeling dead at mile 14 and it seemed like every time I tried to walk or stop, the cold caught up to me. By mile 20 my legs were shot and I was walk/running my way in. I probably had the worst splits of anyone out there today.

Live and learn...again. Don’t start out too fast. Same cardinal sin I committed with my first half marathon. It hurt a lot worse with the full.

I promise you, your story is very common among first time marathoners.

Great job pushing through and finishing though

Nothing wrong with that, man. Live and learn like you said. How was your fueling?

I’d say good. Took in about 15 grams of carbs every 4-5 miles plus Gatorade every 3.

Same as my long runs. I like eating real food. Apple sauce, raisins, and a granola bar. I did grab a Gu, which was disgusting.

Great job on finishing and that 10K and 1/2 PR!

Did that second half feel like it would never end?

It’s a beast man. Respect the distance.

But notice that I was running way fast for my ability. My goal was a 10:00 mile pace and would have settled for 10:18 (4:30:00). Instead I got excited and felt good about my heart rate at around a 9:10 pace. I pretty much ran a half marathon race and then kept going. Of course my legs died at mile 14.

Also, I do think the weather played a big part. I was really cold the whole time and when I walked or stopped, I actually got scared of hypothermia. My body trying to regulate its temperature probably wore me out even more than running did.

I was cursing the marathon toward the end and swearing I’d never do one again. I’m already researching April races a mere 3 hours later.
