Got in my 12 miles today. It’s tough to judge pace when you’re in the middle of a mile. Got in some that were a bit too quick but overall came out ok.

Can probably count me in for 1,500 miles or so for 2019

What’s everyone’s stance on post run stretching? Yay? Nay? I try to get at least 10 mins in, but doesn’t always happen. I’ve read some top tier guys that never stretch and put in some big mileage weeks. Sometimes I feel guilty if I don’t.

We always stretched after track and XC practice. When I was in college I stopped doing it thinking I didn't have to and it came back to bite me in the form of injuries.

How did that run do for you? I thought it looked pretty interesting when you first posted your schedule for the week. Does your plan have many more of those types of runs?

That's what I'm thinking. I can spare at least 10-15 mins usually. OTOH, it's usually when I need it the most when I don't do it (race, long run/workout away from home, etc)

It was interesting. It definitely got me “uncomfortable” during the quicker miles, which I imagine is a good thing

Not sure about future runs yet. Right now we are just working week to week with goal of being ready for May 26 marathon

So no official speed workouts yet? Or is that Wed workout considered a speed workout?

That Wed run looks like fun. I might try something similar. Are you provided with certain strength exercises or a list of muscle groups to work out on certain days?

I would say that classifies as interval work, easier paces interspersed with almost marathon pace. I’m not totally sure though? :idk:

I told him what I was doing before (push on Monday, pull on thursday) and he wanted me to stick with that. We are adding some lower body stuff on Thursday which I didn’t do before. Did some various lunge exercises and was pretty sore from that so he said we will stick to that for a bit before adding anything else

I never ever stretch. I might if I’m feeling tight at night but I don’t before or after a run.

I never liked it in HS and I don’t now. I will say at the ripe age of 35 that my first mile is usually a lot slower than others.

And to the group mileage I’d say that 25k is incredibly doable. I’ll probably come in under 1200 miles for the year and I consider myself a pretty short distance kind of guy. I’m too heavyset for a lot of longer runs. I’m sure some of the longer distance guys can average it out.

ETA: just did the math. The group is at 9996 miles or so with 24 runners and I’d say a large portion of the group didn’t join strava till after July when it was created. Add some runners next year hopefully.

30k or bust

EagainTA: about 4 or 5 1k plus runners on the year.

Cool, that makes me feel alot better about missing a day or 2 or 5 here or there...

I’m definitely in for a mileage goal next year as a group. I was planning to hit at least 1K next year as a goal for sure.

Also wanted to ask you —- you got those 380+ miles on the same pair of Ghosts?

More than that. Probably closer to 500. The heel collar has a lot of wear but they’re solid where it counts.

I didn’t start tracking shoes till after I started having a collection of them.

Yeah I’m itching for another pair but not sure what I want. Will keep my eyes open for a deal. Never liked the fit of Nike for running shoes, but may hit the outlet up this week. Maybe luck up and catch a pair of Zoom Flys. Just curious how long the Ghosts will hold up. Just crossed 100 on mine today. Sounds like they’ll be around awhile.

Come to think of it there is a Sketchers outlet at the mall also. Hmmmm

I’d give the 600s or the ride 7s a look.

They’re fine. Don’t like them more than my ghost but I’d take a discounted pair of 600s over a full priced ghosts.

Not sure why Walmsley is trying to OTQ in a half. Understand the recovery time will be significantly less, but I think he could bang out a 2:19 without much trouble. 1:04 is very quick.

Last week was:
Mon - upper body
Tuesday - 6 miles tempo 7:15 pace
wed - leg work
thurs - 6 miles easy 8:30 pace
friday - rest

Saturday I did a off road duathlon. 2 mile trail run 12 mile mountain bike 2 mile trail run. Wet and cold. It was suppose to be 8 mile bike.

I still need to build those miles up. I think I will turn those 6 milers into 10 and start building.
