Absolutely. There's not one all encompassing program. There's always going to be trade offs. I've just found CF to be what gets me my best results I'm going for.

Then tell me what sport out there will better test cardio, strength, and skill? That is the definition of "fit."

I lift like a normal bodybuilder, use Crossfit to improve my overall cardiovascular health, and follow a Russian Oly program to improve my lifts.
I sat down at pharmacy again yesterday and my BP after a strenuous AM, and some hot-assed fence repairing from 12-2:30 was 110/71.
My goal is to improve on overall strength (lifting), my cardio/gymnastics (MUs, DUs and Handstand walks) and improve my Oly lifts to 275 Clean/Jerk and 225 Snatch (plenty for my age) so I can qualify for some of the regional CF events.
I sat down at pharmacy again yesterday and my BP after a strenuous AM, and some hot-assed fence repairing from 12-2:30 was 110/71.

ive read your posts before an obviously know you are into weightlifting, but reading these posts definitely backs up what I thought. You simply think like a lifter. Nothing wrong with that, but it does not allow you to see things very clearly in terms of Crossfit & other methods.
most normal people that CF do not want to deadlift 700 pounds, or snatch more than an olympic lifter. There is more of an inner battle going on. If im hitting PR's on the regular vs myself, that is a glorifying feeling and keeps me coming back. So yes, I am training enough to become proficient, by my own definition, against my own competition.
The feeling is no different then you PR'ing a deadlift or a squat. Feels good, doesnt it? Isn't that one of the reasons why you do it?

what does that even mean? I understand your broad point I guess, but there is more to it than that. You ever see an out of shape person struggle for 6 months to get a pull up, or deadlift their body weight, and finally break through and do it? Winning any battle or any rep is excelling. Being able to finally sit in the bottom of a squat= excelling. Being able to jump on a 12" box= excelling. Being able to run 400m without stopping= excelling.
These are normal everyday people for the most part wanting to better their health. Not win a powerlifting meet or do a strongman comp.

They all look fit usually. But the gyms (box) here in Katy are all like 125 and up.

It means that it doesn't allow you to get high in anything because of its training protocol. You can't be proficient in snatches or deadlifting if you only do it every 3 weeks or a month. Some of these lifts are highly technical.

That's why I say it's general fitness not a competition. The people at the top I can guarantee you they put more effort than just the WOD. They do a different routine alongside CrossFit to get to the level they are.

That's what I'm talking about. Following CrossFit by itself won't get you better but combined with other programs, you have a base to work with but the other programs will bring up your lifts.

If a 190lb man can't snatch 95lbwhen starting CrossFit but is snatching 220 by year 2, are they not becoming proficient at the movement?
No, they aren't making the CF games or the olympics with that number. But they are in a rare territory of people the can snatch way above body weight
And we snatch 1x a week for load, sometimes twice. It's not as infrequent as once a month. You're posts have been ful of misconceptions

I don't think you are. From my understanding, you just do a WOD? Do different boxes expand on that? You say you do snatches once a week. That puts a different perspective on it.

A general 1 hr CF class will consist of 3 parts
1- warm up/mobility
2- weightlifting (i.e. Backsquat, snatch, clean, etc) or a skill (i.e. Handstand push-up, pull-ups, muscle ups, etc). Skill work happens maybe once a week
3- a workout of the day. This is usually a timed workout between 6-20min that has multiple movements, most of the time involving lightweights but on occasion heavy stuff in small quantities
To expound more on part 2, a lot of times you are lifting upwards of 80% of 1 RM, for 5 working sets of 3-5 reps. It varies but that is common.
Some times it's lighter weight & more form focused. But most of the time is strength based. I continue to PR lifts regularly thru these methods.
Different gyms have different programming depending on the coach. But the format of a typical class reads like above

It's how most CF gyms operate.
However, if you have weaknesses, you have to put in time before, after or whenever, to improve on those.

One knock I've heard about CF is Strength training, but I'll guarantee the average crossfitter is stronger in the main powerlifting and Olympic movements than the average gym goer. Even the above average gym bros.
Lester is right in the aspect that every person going to a CF gym is doing Olympic lifts and powerlifting lifts. Compare that to an average gym, or again even the average gym bros, who are probably only bench pressing and MAYBE squatting (with crummy form) & deadlifting.
So you have roughly 150-300 people in most CF gyms doing these movements on a daily basis. These are average people. Compare that to maybe a few dozen in a normal gym doing those movements and you can see why the average CF'er is stronger and more proficient at these movements.
Now are they going to be better than the super serious power lifters and whatnot? Absolutely not. But they are eons ahead of the majority of the fitness population.

Yea our box is pretty similar. You'll have a strength portion like overhead press, 5 @ 60%, 70% and 80% or something along those lines
I always do extra shite after. We have rowing classes which are fun, and I'll go and help out with it. Lately I've been working on efficiency with muscle ups (rings/bar). So I go 5 days a week, with 3-4 of those days being there for 2 hours or more.

I've been using PocketWod app. I enjoy their workouts a lot. This week smoked the quads with tons of front squats, wall balls, and thrusters.

On Saturdays I use the school gym (ULL) and I bet I look like a douche to a lot of these people. Doing double unders and handstand push-ups. Oh well, it works.
