Max number of dips you can do in one set right now? Just body weight and gravity.

34 (Age 55, 6’2”, 220lbs)

I remember my Dad challenging me when I was a late teen. I barely beat him. Now, I’m the Dad.

Form! Until last 5ish. Just beat gravity shows up.

Just curious.

Breaks 90-degrees at elbows. No swinging legs. Last 5 - 7 you may disagree with. After 50yo, I’m counting them!

Kidding.

Age: 37, 151 lbs bw (no, I'm not Mingo).

I can get 35-40 with just my bodyweight. I usually do weighted sets, though.

I stop at 40 reps with body weight. Second set I use two plates with a belt for 20 reps.

Dips are the squats of upper body. This is one of the many reasons gymnasts have jacked shoulders.

44 years old, 6'00, 205lbs body weight.

I'm still recovering from tricep tendon repair surgery in Oct 2025. I'm back to dips and up to about 25 right now. Pre-op, I was at about 45. I'll get it back, just gotta keep rehabbing that tri.

At age 55, new philosophy. Heavy weight equals heavy Ortho copays. Breaking 90-degrees is greater risk than return. No meniscus in knee, no running for thee.

Chit like dat.

To say, dips and leg press now measure my father timed arse.

Well done! Salute.

I’m 6’2” and 220lbs. Dips are all I got nowadays! Torn this and missing that. Kidding.

Any good videos for form?

I've watched some, but I can't seem to get my form down. When I do dips, I'll tweak my shoulder about 50 percent of the time. I won't feel it until a few hours after doing the dips.

Dips kill my elbows, so I have no idea how many I can do because I avoid them like the plague.

Thus my life now being over 50. Left shoulder has a partial bicep tear, arthritis from years of lifting, and partial cuff tear. Ortho says we can fix it all at once, whenever I want, or I can just lift light weights with lots of reps.

My upper body heavy lifting days may be done.

Years ago, I made a genius move, after then teenage son got a heavy bag for Christmas. I rared back and Rocky III’ed that SOB. Mild torn labrum and had to give up dips.

Over the years since, dips are back with vengeance. Never repaired shoulder. Dips no bother it. Incline bench w/dumbells F my shoulder up with pain.

All to say, I don’t do anything (Dip form) special.

36 but probably could have weeks out a couple more if my life were on the line.
52, 6’3” 210#
I had never tried to max out with just BW but I usually do weighted dips on chest day. I enjoyed this as a warm up so I may work this I’m going forward. Thanks OP!

I can do at least 40. 50 might be possible if I've stretched really well beforehand.
