I’m looking at 3 brands: Rogue, Sorinex and Kettlebell Kings. Firstly, they’re just Kettlebells.... right? Does anything specific stick out between these three brands specific to Kettlebells? Anything I’m missing?

Secondly, for a garage gym ... what’s the best finish? Powder coat, rubber, e-coat, ceratoke? Anything I should know?

Thanks gents!

I’ve got the cerakote OPB and like it a lot.

ETA: I know this is a kettlebell discussion, but figured the experience with cerakote was worth a mention.

Go check out kettlebellkings IG today - they just literally posted "Whats the difference between cast iron and competition?"

That might be helpful for you. Are you going to get into KB training?

Go follow @daring101 on IG -- he's enjoyable to watch for ideas.

Nothing crazy, just accessory work.

ETA: thanks for the links! It’s less about difference between competition vs a regular kettlebell and more about the best finishes. What will chip the easiest, etc...

I did just snag a 10lb and 15lb kettlebell from Sorinex on eBay for pretty cheap so that’s a nice small start.

I like the coarseness of the cast iron handle. And the thickness as they get bigger for farmers carries.

Almost all of the cast iron bells were made in the same foundry in China. The new rogues will be made stateside.

I have original rogues with the power coat finish and really like them. But I would think the cerakote would be better.

Purchased a Kettlebell Kings 53 lb powder coat around 3 years ago and have been satisfied. Would like to add a 70 lb and maybe two 44 lb to the mix. More partial to availability than manufacturer now.

I have two no name brands - a 26# hammered metallic finish and a 35# shiny epoxy type finish. They are ok for that weight, but would never recommend them. I have a cast powder coat 53# Rogue and it isn’t bad at all. The powder coat has held up (no rust or chipping) but has gotten pretty smooth. My Kettlebell Kings 88# is by far my favorite. The powder coat is textured but not too rough. The handle is the perfect size also. If I had to buy anymore I would go back with Kettlebell Kings.

I know nothing about kettlebell brands and finishes. I will say that when I did the 10,000 kettlebell swing challenge, the 'bells at my gym had a seam on the underside of the handle which tore my hands up and gave me blisters. Not sure if this is true for all kettlebells or if the ones at my gym were just cheap.

About five years ago a friend sold me his CAP kettlebell set for $200 total- KB pairs in five lb. increments from 15-80 lbs and very light use. The lighter ones (15-45 lbs.) have a black finish and the heavier ones (50-80 lbs.) have a metal finish but they do the trick for cheap KB's that get daily use and have had no issues at all. Just my .02.

That's a steal. Would be about the same price for two decent 53 lb'ers now without shipping if you could find them

Well I contacted Sorinex to see if they’re legit because I hadn’t seen Sorinex Kettlebells like these and they said they were to fulfill a military contract and that these weren’t for sale to the general public. Sorinex said they aren’t suppose to be sold like this.

They are in lbs where as the whole Sorinex website only has Kettlebells in kilos outside of their one ACFT 40 lb kettlebell.

Also, Rogue makes some 9 and 13 lbs but no 10 and 15 ... I really just got them because they’re unique and my wife can use them. I’ll post a picture when they’re in.

Well, if that's the case you can get a whole new set for yourself.

I wouldn’t focus on brand but look at how you’re going to use them. Are you just going to be swinging them and carrying them or will you clean and jerk and press with them?

If you’re going to clean and press and jerk get a competition style grip, it will help a lot more compared to the generic grip you see on most.
