How long do you have to lift until your legs aren't sore for 4 days?

Been lifting consistently for about 2 years or so and I'm still miserably sore 3-4 days after a killer leg workout. No other body parts feel this amount of soreness after lifting.

Does this ever go away? Is this the cause of 4-5 years of working out once or twice a week and it never being legs? I'm sure sitting at a desk for 8-9 hours per day doesn't help either.

Are you doing anything extra to care for your legs after working them out? Unlike everything above them, the legs work all day every day, standing, walking, going up/down stairs/ramps. They don't get the normal rest period the upper body gets when you are sitting at the office or even walking around.

i'm kind of in the same boat but I have started foam rolling 2-3 times a week and stretching. I also know my body well, and realize I can't squat heavy 3 days a week, so I do heavy/light/heavy then have 2 days off so I give my legs more recovery time

Not unless you start bitching out.

I'll be fine the next day but for some reason day 2 my legs are sore as shite

So are you working out your legs consistently or not?

I do squats and leg presses 3x a week and while they are a little sore, especially the 2nd day after, it stopped being brutally sore after the first couple of weeks.

That seems really odd to me. The only thing that will get my legs that way are weighted lunges. I've only been back at it since last June.

Do you take fish oil? I know this is anecdotal but when I am taking a few a day I never get as sore as when I’m not taking them.

If you're only hitting legs once a week they'll pretty much always be that sore. I'd say after a rough leg workout, stretch and roll out your quads, hammies, and glutes really well.. then on the sore days, do a light leg workout and stretch again (just some air squats, lunges, stair steps, etc. to get some blood flowing into the muscles).. when I'm extremely sore a light workout of that bodypart followed by some stretching helps a LOT.

Frequency is key. Mine get sore but not terrible and I work them about 4 times a week between deadlifts and squats.

I hit legs every week. As soon as the soreness goes away I hit them.

I hit legs this Tuesday. They’ll probably be sore until Saturday. Sunday or Monday I’ll hit them again. Then the cycle of soreness starts again.

The soreness would go away quicker if you worked them out more frequently, even when they are sore

Which I guess would take me away from the split of:

Push
Pull
Legs
Metcon/arms

When I was a powerlifter, it would take me a full week to not feel any soreness since I also did lots of leg accessory work

Now I'm just sore from my program since I just started lifting again in a long time

Try powering through for a few weeks and working them 2x a week.

I’m at the point to where the soreness and fatigue are gone by the end of the day. I do stretch after more than I used to. That may have made a difference.

Like others said, I would work them out more if I were you. The DOMS is a pain to work through at first, but once your legs get used to it the soreness will go away.

Try doing a progressive routine. If your doing bro splits, then your legs won’t get enough volume to overcome the DOMS.

It doesn't matter how often I train legs. If I do heavy walking lunges, my arse and inner thighs will be sore as frick for a few days.

I do heavy walking lunges for every leg workout. They’re the best.

That's probably why you're always sore (not a bad thing in this case)

I can do high rep atg squats, heavy atg squats, regular lunges whatever, but nothing else makes me sore like the walking lunges.

It's a love/hate workout. Tough as shite on the muscles and my cardiovascular endurance is awful so I'm dying after each set.
