I quit cold turkey about 40 years ago so I am not much help to a friend who needs to quit. He tried the patches system and had an allergy reaction to them (extreme itching).

If anyone has any suggestions, please post or feel free to email me raul "at" actionadvertising.com

Nicotine gum. Chew it like crazy for the first few weeks. Anytime he would want a cigarette chew gum. When I did it I just sort of switched my addiction from dip to gum then worked slowly over time to give up the gum.

I think the biggest thing that made me anxious with quitting is the fact that I thought I would be thinking about smoking for the rest of my life. when you fist quit, it dominates your brain. Realizing or getting affirmation that those thoughts diminish and eventually go away, was the biggest thing I have found to tell someone who is trying to quit.

Also, have them download an app that shows how much money they are saving daily.

And replace a bad habit with a good physical habit like working out.

Switch to vaping. He can taper down the amount of nicotine in the vape juice as time goes on. Plus he will smell like fresh baked cupcakes instead of burnt shite.

I used the Zyn pouches. When I decided to cut the pouches out, I realized that I was using them more for appetite control than actual smoking. I have no desire to smoke a cigarette but it’s been extremely hard not to snack all day long instead of popping in a pouch.

“The easy way to quit smoking” by Allen Carr

I’ve never smoked, but I’ve heard people swear by this book.

For me, I had to stay away from triggers like alcohol and keep myself busy. I took up a hobby that if I smoked, would ruin my progress (running).

No booze and tons of exercise is how I beat the cigs.

Just become a social smoker. Give them up when you’re not drinking or socializing with people.

I had that smokers hack. Decided I did not want to cough no more. Stopped smoking and stopped coughing. Oh, and beer and coffee is just as good without cigabutts.

Wellbutrin worked for me. I also quit drinking alcohol for a while and I quit drink caffeine too. I went everywhere with a pic of my kids to remind me what I was doing and why.

Start doing CrossFit. A bunch of guys in my gym struggled to stop until they were forced to do high intensity workouts daily

Not everyone can do it.... it all has to do with the "WHY"
and it is different for everyone. I am passing most of the suggestions to him.

I forgot to mention the upside to being dry, cig free, and taking on an exercise habit which is... it makes you 1000 times more frickable. This seems to be important to a lot of people. And before anyone trots on here and says “what if he’s already married?”. I say to you what’s wrong with wanting your wife to be even more into you? There is no downside, only abs and money in your damn pocket.

The gum

Or chantix

Or Wellbutrin - indicated for smoking cessation as well

Good luck to your friend
