Another issue is sometimes I wanna be cut so I decrease calories then I get weaker so I feel bad cause I'm weak then reverse all I did and eat and get strong then fell bad I'm chunky. Never ends. Just need to ride it out.

Hate this shite. Did a cut this summer. Looked great in a mirror but Everytime I did Olympic/power lifts I would just get more and more pissed off.

I know it's stupid but it's just a mental thing. Sucks when you go from repping 225 10-15 times on the last set to barely getting it up 3-5x.

Same thing happened on DL. Finally hit my 500 max goal. Start cutting, now I can barely rep 405 5x

You have to cut volume, you aren't going to have the same endurance, just focus on top end strength.

I just bounced a stare off of 4 different mirrors. I got about 15 seconds in before I was busted

I'm in the gym 4 times a week and have been for 5 years.

I haven't done a set of bench, deadlift or squat in 15 years.

A friend who is going for bulk was there one time and I jumped in and did 135, 225, and 225 just to see. Got them and haven't looked back.

And I elliptical. Often.

Not that unheard of. Our strength coach in HS had us all max out on Bench. The next 6 weeks, no one did a single set of bench, dumbbells, incline, etc. He wanted to show us that there is more to lifting than how much ya bench. And he was one of those bodybuilder types that set records in bench. So we all went through his 6 week workout plan, and after that we all maxed out again. Some guys upped their max by 35-40%.

Eh, those are newbie gains. Would have happened no matter what they did.

There is much more to benching but people demonize it because it's popular but it's still a great movement.

Maybe the underclassmen, but we had some hogs on the OL and DL that were country strong as Juniors and Seniors. They were already pushing a respectable amount of weight. FWIW, I still love Bench. Too many guys either focus too much on it, or avoid it all together. Its a great part of a good workout plan.

I have always done bench (flat & incline) at the heaviest weight that I can handle without a spot. Will try to get a spot about once/month to push myself a little more. I never did squats or dead lifts until my early 30s and only do high volume / moderate weight now.

One confession is my lack of clips on bench. In 25 years of bench, I've only got 'stuck' twice. Both times were 10+ years ago, there wasn't anyone close to me, so I pushed one side up so the weights fell off (then the other side quickly fell). If I had clips on them, not sure what I would've done.

I went by the new LSU UREC recently and was doing bench without clips. One of the staff asked me to put them on so I did. There were plenty of people around if I would have got stuck. Bench is the only thing that I do where I sometimes feel the need for a spotter but usually don't ask if people look like they are really into their workout (and I usually lift at non-peak times with not as many around).

i actually started a new regimen today that calls for bench and i don't have any friends at my current gym. actually a little frightened. i'm probably going to do them on the smith machine.

You can do them on the Smith but personally you will get better results doing flat bench with dumbbells. That way it's not life or death needing a spotter.

Noted. We'll see. My chest the past 4 years was dips Cable flys and a fly machine. I'll try both since this my testing week and I'm in no rush.

i was traveling and did the workout in anytime up in dallas yesterday. so before i saw that clip.

i did better than expected with dumbells. was happy to get some sets with the 60s.

thing is pretty brutal. in 2 days it calls for 75 pullups, 100 pushups, 80ish bench presses, and 40 dips.

i got 58, 90, 67, and 35 respectively.
