Oh yeah Delta are among the best in the world too. Delta and DEVGRU are tip of the spear, tier-one operators.

I didn't get to spend a ton of time with the ODA dudes, but had some really good friends in my unit who were the military dog handlers for 2nd MSOB. They deployed with some ODA guys out of Bragg around 06, I guess, and said they were cool AF. I interacted with some of those guys out in J'ville a time or two when they came out to learn how to surf out in Topsail beach. We were out of uniform so i'm not sure if there was any AF guys with them.

Sealfit does a “Kokoro Camp” which is like a long weekend mini BUDs for anyone that wants to sign up. It’s mostly executive business men or guys training to prepare for BUDs.

GoRuck also does a “selection” course that last like 3-4 days know Jacksonville. Both of them will give you a small taste of what going through BUDs/Selection would be like.

Does it involve really cold water? If so, hell no.

Yeah, the Pacific is cold as frick, even in Coronado. There is a reason BUD/S instructors say "go get wet and sandy". It's a mind frick. They want guys that don't know the word "quit".

No, I was never a good swimmer. I've never done any endurance anything either. I was always a sprinter in track.

It takes a lot more than being in good shape! Or being a good swimmer!

Not every operator is in elite shape

The little that I know about this area was from the Lone Survivor book. I've always felt like I was in pretty good shape but am fairly certain that I could never have completed the program.

It would definitely require a great deal of mental preparation (before) and mental toughness (during) but I have no shame in acknowledging that I simply couldn't do it.

Yeah, the swimming and physical stuff doesn't scare me too much. I mean It would take some training and wouldn't be easy, but it's not what scares me.

The sleep deprivation, cold, and mental aspect are what I think I'd fail at and possibly quickly.

I dont know, I was really fit at around 21 years old. Running every day, lifting. I think physically I couldve handled it. I just dont know how much of the suck I could take.

I have always enjoyed a group setting and being part of a team, I feel that if I had a BUDS class I may could have made it? By myself, probably not.

Being able to lift a lot doesn't really help you tons. Dudes who pump tons of iron usually are the first to burn out doing cals.

This. A good reference if you want to succeed making it through BUD/S is 75-100 push-ups in 2 minutes, 75-100 sit-ups in 2 minutes, 12-20 pull-ups in a burst, 500 yard swim in 8-9 minutes, and the 1.5 mile run in 8-10 minutes. These are upper limits of the minimums but you want to have some left in the tank going through the mind games that get thrown at you.

Physically easily. I was maxing out PT test at the beginning of basic training and hit 100+ on both situps and pushup with sub 11 min 2 mile by the end.

Mentally I don't know. My pops made it through Q course and SFAS. So maybe. But he still whoops my arse on the regular.

A good friend of mine went through the SF Q Course at 42. He is a completely normal guy. In good shape, but no better shape than a lot of people. It's what's between your ears that counts.

Case in point: This is Mike Vining. He looks like a nerdy accountant, but he was handpicked to be one of the original members of Delta Force and was Schwarzkopf's personal bodyguard in Desert Storm. He can kill you five different ways before you know you're dead.
