Do you think you could have made it through Navy SEAL BUD/s at any point in your life?

Back when I graduated high school, I knew I was going into a branch of the military. Eventually narrowed it down to Marines or Navy SEALs.

Graduated and spent about 6 months working my arse off before going to see each recruiter. Went to both of them in what was at the time the best shape of my life. After talking to the Navy guy, he basically said "Yea, I can give you a BUD/s contract, but if you fail they'll roll you out and then you'll be at the needs of the Navy for a job". That just wasn't a risk I wanted to take. I couldn't imagine being a cook or something like that. Ended up joining the Marines and was able to pick my job, but sometimes I wonder if I could have actually passed BUD/s. I think I could have at the time.

Not now at 30 though. Any of y'all think you can make it through?

I like your style. I'd totally try it if joining the active-duty military again wasn't a requirement. That risk of failing and being a cook still scares the shite out of me.

I’ve had the honor to meet some active members of Gold Squadron DEVGRU (SEALs team six). My father takes them on bear hunts and participated in their hostage situation training (at big venues, like the Superdome). The one I met in 2012 told me he got a total of 15 minutes of sleep during hell week.

It’s up to the individual if they want to make it through. And there have been guys in great shape to quit, so it goes beyond that.

You would be surprised at how many guys in their mid to late 30s actually make it through these types of courses.

shite an AF Chief made it through Ranger school last year.

Yea, I had an opportunity to meet and work with some of those dudes on Lejeune. Not huge guys by any means. Most were probably 5'9 to 5'11 and sub 200 pounds. About my size.

A cousin of mine graduated Tulane law with a freakin mountain of student debt. This was back around 2007-2008 I want to say. He had worked it out to where he would have gone to OCS and then been in Marine Corps JAG, which is a damn hard contract to get. That fricker backed out at the last minute and is still not practicing law.

Yes most will have a swimmer’s body. One guy was an exception, the one I met in 2012. He was 6’3” and probably 240. He struggled with swimming, but still overcame it.

When I get the chance, I’ll show you the tomahawk I dontated to Blue Squadron. Every Squadron in ST6 has their own standard issue Tomahawk (except for Silver and Black Squadron).

Does it involve really cold water? If so, hell no.

A couple of my high school years involved two a day swimming, off season football lifting, and powerlifting 5 days/week. I remember feeling like I could do anything. I was really slow and sucked at running though.

My DO when I was stationed in England was a mil to mil marriage with another Capt up the road at Mildenhall who happened to be a Special Tactics Officer.

Dude didn't look at all like he was built for it.

Then again most SF guys once they hit 35+ blow up

Aren't swimmers ridiculously tall with super long arms?

Yes, and lots of it and often, when you’re tired, sore, and running on little to no sleep.

That's badass. I never got to meet any Team 6 guys (I don't think) but we did do some ranges with some retired Delta dudes who were contractors. It was crazy, they were all like 40s-50s and had pot-bellies but could absolutely shoot the lights out on the range. I've never seen such proficiency with weapons. It was crazy to see.

Not that i know of. They’re fairly lean and fit, and not too big. There’s a better description.

Not to my knowledge unless they were attached to one of the ODA teams.
