they can be great for working explosive hinge, adding volume without beating yourself up etc
can also be a waste of time and only cardio
can be done correctly and are 100% safe if done so but can frick you up if done incorrectly
there i think I about covered it. but yea swings are great for posterior chain work and explosive hips, especially if using heavy weights and especially if doing dead stop with heavy weight.

When done correctly they will work your core, legs, lower back and cardio.

It's a total body conditioning. Mostly cardio, but obviously, it builds all those muscles, head to toe, particularly if you are progressive with the weight.

there is a cardio vascular impact yes. i find it a great antidote to impacts from my sedentary career as an engineer and someone who spends a lot of time in a vehicle. it trains power and promotes hypertrophy in the posterior chain that gets weak and underused in a sedentary setting. glutes first, then hamstrings and back muscles. and they allow you to train speed while staying in one place, which is rare. for a former child and high school athlete i value that . try em, there are lots of great videos on proper and safe technique. it takes lots of practice

I mean dont get me wrong, portions of the TGU are good for shoulder health and they are good in a warm up but you need a lot of room to do them, they take a long time, they are not good for building strength, they are not good for building power, they are not good for building muscle nor are they some exceptional exercise that is going to start burning a lot of calories.
its one of those things I never got the appeal of
just like when it comes to sports performance...i never understood the appeal of cleans. They are fun, but once you put a velocity meter on them you step back and say WTF......then realize you have to load them light as frick to get the speeds needed to get any form of training RFD. You realize real quick loaded jumps are much better
at least cleans are fun though, TGU are dumb imo.

For sports performance, I’m not disagreeing with you. But Olympic lifting is a “sport” in and of itself and the clean is a much more standardized movement for comparison of strength and power than a loaded jump so I get the point of doing them.

yea for sure, Olympic lifters should absolutely do them. and hell i like them as I think they are fun. I was talking strictly from a sports performance side of things
bunch of coaches are coming to that conclusion now too now that VBT is so cheap and accessible. and now that the jump lasers came out that make measuring jumps much easier and much more accurate than the old jump mats, especially loaded jumps, a lot more coaches are going that away. Much much more conjugate westside style performance training happening now.

WTF are you talking about and what does it have to do with kettlebell exercises?
Posted on 8/23/25 at 9:55 pm to lsu777
Which they should be
The strength and conditioning work is to build gpp, not finding ways to use weights to mimic your sport movements

Whoever downvoted is an idiot
You practice your sport to build the attributes to that sport, the strength and conditioning work is to build the general aspect needed such as strength, agility, cardio, etc.

I have a 75 minute kettlebell routine I do 3-4 x a month.
It includes swings.
And your entire body will feel like you got ran over by a Mack truck the next day. In a good way

Curious about how many reps are required to get a workout with the kettlebell swings
