Not gonna lie, I'm intimidated as hell about Murph, first year crossfitter here
Posted on 5/24/18 at 2:08 pm to Mark Makers
this is my first year as an actual Crossfitter, as in going to a real gym, but I've actually done Murph several times and I used to do half Murph like once a week when I was working out in my garage or at the park
it was the first Crossfit workout that I was ever introduced to
I tweaked my shoulder over the weekend though so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do it this year, which sucks, as I was kinda looking forward to do it with a big group at the gym

What do they say, beat your age on Murph? So anything under 46 min with a vest is acceptable. That shouldn't be a problem.
I am not crazy about running, I am more built for power lifting than running. I was conned into doing 2 Spartan Trifectas, that helped me get over my hatred for running.
Good luck to you!

I do Murph in less than an hour as my goal. Did once in like 49 minutes, but was in better shape 3 years ago.
I will muddle thru it Monday.

I hate running.
Torn calf from flag football locks up during the first mile and I hobble along until it fixes itself. It happens every time no matter how much I stretch/warmup beforehand.
The 100/200/300 will take me 20-22 minutes or so, so I need to run two 12 miles to beat my age which is easily doable.

Do y'all break those up? Like 5 rounds of 20 pullups, 40 pushups, and 60 squats or 20 sets of Cindy?

Damn, torn calf too??? You are a tough old goat, I probably would be doing yoga if I had a torn calf and ripped my bicep off my shoulder.

At the bottom of the calf. It felt like someone hit me in the calf at the start of a play. I walked off, but the next day, I could put zero weight on it..
The issue is the tendons right below the calf where scar tissue has built up. It tightens up right there and no amount of stretching will alleviate it.
Need an assload of a-stim scraping.
Torn long head bicep tendon..

For Murph I won’t be able to do all the pull ups. So band assisted pull-ups or jump pull ups?
Posted on 5/24/18 at 8:29 pm to tke_swamprat
Do jumping after you start failing on the pull-ups, but only set up enough plates to still make it a challenge.
Posted on 5/24/18 at 9:22 pm to tigerfoot
I've done it both ways. The last two years have been un-partitioned, because that's how the coach wants it (for Rx atleast). It has made it very challenging.

Do ring rows

For strength I did 5x3 working sets of back squats then some body building leg work outs for accessory work
For conditioning put my plate carrier on and did
2 mins on AMRAP 2 deadlifts at 185, 5 dead hang pull ups, 5 push ups, then 2 mins off for 8 rounds
By round 5 flight or fight kicked in big time
