I’m 53 go to the health club 3 times a week. I do different things at the health club. I do straight weights then I’ll mix in a cross fit / cardio routine. Will I see a benefit from creatine? I’m not concerned about getting bigger necessarily. I’ve read they have other benefits also

Have you never used creatine before?

Probably. You might feel a better ability to push your limits a bit, but at 53 the cognitive benefits are more intriguing.

Never used it before.

Talking to people and reading, it seems like it will make me feel better overall. The cognitive benefits definitely peaked my interest.

Best summary I have found on the subject below. But basically it can aid in performance, recovery, help with neuro degeneration, cardiovascular benefits and a whole lot more.

There are lots of upsides and almost no downsides. That’s usually what I tell people when they ask. The link above does a good job with the specifics.

I like the finer powder creatine and dry scoop 10mg/day.

I'm about your age and do mostly swimming and cycling with light weights 3 times a week and I've seen benefits in the form of slight bicep and chest gain.

I’m 55. Been lifting and martial arts pretty much since I was a teen. Obviously done a lot of stuff in that window but my constant has always been creatine. Used to do the standard 5 grams per day but have since upped that to 15 per day for over a year. Not only will it help you in the gym but it will also benefit you tremendously with cognitive ability as well.

I have been reading standard dosage is 5g a day. What made you increase to 15? How do you know if you increase and it’s too much?

Studies are showing 15-20g is actually the sweet spot for cognitive function with creatine. Search some of the past post history for this. LSU777 has thrown out lots of info on this.

Had anyone ever had their creatinine levels be abnormally high when taking blood labs. Mine has been high the last 3 years. Read that creatine can cause false high levels. Decided to get off for 6 weeks and redo labs to see. I was basically in the kidney failure range. Only 46 and have no other signs of kidney issues. I was taking between 10 and 15mg daily.

the answer is yes. any and everyone will benefit from creatine unless they are a rare non responder but even then you should get the mental benefits.

at your age, yes you should take it for the mental benefits at a minimum.

It doesn't matter what you do, every human on the planet would benefit from creatine. Because you are active, you'd just benefit more than a sedentary person

I'm 67 and lift 4 days a week. Started the creatine a little over 2 years ago and started seeing huge benefits pretty quick . I lift fairly heavy and never get sore , more strength and endurance , and do notice the cognitive gains. I take about 15 grams daily. I had stage 4 cancer back in 2019 and have been in remission since 2020, go for annual checks @ MD Anderson . Blood work is always good and kidneys normal levels. Did a lot of research before starting and believe it to be very safe. Would highly recommend to all , do the research and decide for yourself. Good luck and God bless !

I’m curious, when do you take your creatine each day ?

I have read a lot of different times and I’m trying to decide when to take it. It came in and I plan to start Thursday.

I take mine an hour or more before my workout. On non workout days I take after breakfast . You can split the dose and take half after your workout with protein shake . I have seen some research indicating some benefits with that. Main thing - take every day , be consistent and you should see the results in how you feel and perform. Watch some YouTubes - I enjoy Thomas Delauer- for some good info.

doesnt matter. just take it when its convenient and dont let trying to maximize the 1% keep you from realizing the other 99% of the benefits.

Similar here. I workout at night after the kids are in bed. If I'm lifting and taking a preworkout, or if I'm doing a longer endurance type ride on my bike, I add a scoop into the preworkout. About a half hour before going to workout. If I'm not doing a pre, I just do the creatine. I'll put a scoop in my water bottle with a few ounces of water and chug that, then refill the bottle and add a second scoop and sip on that while working out. Main thing is consistency.

This is the one I order from Amazon:

Ultimately, it is about the cummulative concentration in the system. It can provide some energy boost if taken a little before a workout which can help, but otherwise it is pretty irrelevant when you are taking it, as long as you are taking it consistently every day. It isn't like a pre-workout or something that is designed to give you some quick energy stimulant. I take it before workouts because its just easy as i'm already usually taking a few things then anyways, but on a weekend or something when I don't have a workout planned, i'll just take it in the morning with breakfast.

Damn that’s scary. What kind of cancer did you have and did you not go to doctor for a while since it got to stage 4 or was it just not detected early?
