I'm looking to drop some weight as I'm about 240 and 6 ft tall 37 years old. I don't really want to join a gym as I'm trying to save money. I've downloaded MFP app and plan to track my food but looking for good workout that I can do at home. I enjoy walking but i don't think that's enough for the day. Any advise?

Do you have a bike? If you do buy a trainer. Cycling burns a bunch of calories and is low impact.

Welcome, brother. I mostly do calisthenics. It's great and I highly recommend it.

Form is crucial but luckily there are a lot of great instructional videos on YouTube. Calisthenicsmovement is a great channel.

Pullup
Pushup
Dip
Pike
Pistol squat
Inverted Rows
Hanging leg raises

There are so many things you can do.

Burpees are the ultimate body weight exercise

Not sure what kind of shape you're in. But you can start by setting a timer for a minute and doing as many as you can. Then rest a minute. Then another minute of burpees. Etc. go for 20min. Increase time each week

I used to do burpees and they were challenging but rewarding. I will try to incorporate some into a routine.

This is the video I started with on YouTube. I was also 37, but 5'9" 220. I only started with 6 lb dumbells and it kicked my arse.

Bob Harper Super Strength Workout

Also did 30 mins of cardio when I was able to. I lost 85 lbs in a little under a year.

You don't have to go strictly bodyweight. You can incorporate sandbag training and do a lot of the movements you do in the gym. Also, strongly recommend a pullup bar and a set of gymnastic rings. The rings take dips to a whole different level.

I'll take plate carrier over the iotv

I think it's better tactically

But that another debate for another time

yep rings, sandbags and of course a pullup bar make a big difference.

Like straightcash said, weighted vest can make a huge difference too. just walking around with it changes the way you feel and your posture. Jim Wendler did nothing but weighted vest work for months after he had surgery last year and he stated in some articles on his forum that it was the best decision he ever made and will be a staple in his programming from now on. If you ever get to the point where you want to do simple barbell lifts and the rest bodyweight, his forever 5/3/1 book has some good templates from when he started adding back in the 4 main lifts and the rest was weighted vest work.

Also the greyskull lp book shows you how to make a 5lbs sandbad. LINK

I made my sandbags by weighing out the sand into the clear plastic thick trash liners they sell at home depot. Then taped the shite out of it with duct tape. I knew I would be rough on mine, so i got canvus from hobby lobby and wrapped it in two layers of that and then taped the ever living shite out of it. Mine have held up for over 2 years now.

here are some links to my google drive with all the kavadlo brothers, convict conditioning, and other calisthenics programs

gymnastics programs These are amazing programs to anything you want to do. With rings, you can get as big and ripped as you want, especially with a weighted vest.

Greyskull Greyskull will teach you the frequency method, when combined with a ring program, you can really add mass or get shredded depending on the goal. Also gives you a program to be able to eventually get to 100 burpees in 5 min which is bad arse.

LINK to my google drive ebooks folder. Just go to it and search bodyweight and there are hundreds of books on there on bodyweight training. anything and everything you could ever want to accomplish you can do with these programs.

Also search tnation if you get bored and want to change it up. Hope this helps.

I heartily endorse body weight fitness for your workout needs, but I would encourage you not to link working out too strongly with weight loss, as your diet will be 90%+ of that equation.

Yeah tons of good info but I understand my diet is 90% of the weight loss. I just need to come up with a good meal plan and stick to it.

I was looking at avatar nutrition for my IIFYM but not sure if it's for a regular Joe like me instead of weight lifters. What are your thoughts?
