I totally agree and get that. If people are just looking for a pill without the rest, they shouldn't be allowed to get it. However, those that need it as a hard jumpstart should be able to get it.

I might have pre-judged the FDA.
Wegovy also still seems impressive.

Mounjaro, a drug approved in 2022 to treat type 2 diabetes, has also shown remarkable weight-loss effects, reducing trial participants’ weight by over 20%. Regulators have taken notice, granting the medication a fast-track designation for its review for the treatment of obesity.
quote:
Lilly announced on Oct. 6 that the FDA granted tirzepatide a “fast track” review to be designated as a treatment for obesity. To receive this label, Lilly will be using data from the SURMOUNT-1 trial and the ongoing SURMOUNT-2 trial, which is investigating tirzepatide in people with type 2 diabetes who have excess weight or obesity.
Although the SURMOUNT-2 trial will not be completed until April 2023, the FDA’s fast-track designation allows for rolling submission of trial data. This means the FDA can review data as it comes in, instead of waiting for the entire trial to conclude first. This expedites the review process, resulting in a potentially sooner approval date.
quote:
Currently, one of the best glucose-lowering medications for weight management is Wegovy (semaglutide), which resulted in a 14.9% reduction in body weight – significantly lower than tirzepatide’s 22.5% reduction.
Wegovy also still seems impressive.

My neighbor has never run a step or been to a gym to my knowledge. I could see using it to jump start the process. It’d be hard to start running if you were a hundred pounds overweight, but I can’t see it as a long term solution.

Yea but same as Mounjaro. It’s not covered my insurance for weight lose either.

Not doubting you but like TRT, there seem to be weight loss clinics and MDs writing it for that. I'm guessing the pharmacies would fill Wegovy over Mounjaro if there's no shortage.
Edit: Jose, just looked at my insurance out of curiosity, my insurance covers it at any dose, for a 30 day supply, for $75/month. Note: I don't need it, was just curious if it was covered.
Also, my insurance specifically states that it is prescribed for weight loss.

I’m new to the private world as I just finished residency and fellowship this past June, so I’m it as well versed in insurance baloney as I should be. But I have learned that there is a handful of insurances that cover it for weight lose. You sir are the lucky one with that insurance

But I don't need it! Thankfully

People that lose a ton of weight are people that have a ton of weight to lose. It’s not for people wanting to lose 15 lbs. it’s for diabetics that need to lose 100 lbs or even more.
So yes, many thousands of people have successfully used it for weight loss. But it’s not for getting rid of those last stubborn pounds. It’s for moving from morbidly obese to overweight.

Oh I get that. I don't know the true starting point, but I'd say BMI over 30 and 40-50lbs minimum.
Plus, people should get a blood panel done for all hormones before considering that at all. Sometimes, a simple thyroid med will work great.

I know some cover glp-1 for it, not sure which
As far as the long term solution and how it works, what happens when off
Well glove-1 essentially tricks the brain into thinking it’s full. Eventually you eat in caloric deficit.
Eventually your body gets used to that amount of food filling you up so even when off you feel full.
But in the end all this is doing is reducing the cravings and allowing you to diet.
Imo it’s a fricking miracle drug but you will always have lazy fricks who take it and then get mad they can’t pig out without side effects. Those stories are all over Reddit along with shite ton of success stories.
I read one a while back where guy was mad he couldn’t have traditional Sunday dinner feast of lasagna, Sunday gravy etc and was mad he could only have 1 plate without getting sick. Said if he couldn’t eat 2 or 3 plates it was just ruining tradition.
So when you read the stats, remember there is always some fat frick that is just wasting it cause he wants his 3 plate feast

So which one?
Mounjaro or Ozempic?
My wife is hounding me about letting her get on it. She’s only about 15# over where she wants to be.
Of course, I come to TD for my research.

Only 15#?
Doubt she can get it prescribed
Of the two mounjaro but any glp1 will work
But not worth it for 15# imo.
Can go black market if needed, peptide sciences has it. Remember start with low dose.
Read lots of reviews of people starting too high and peeing out the a-hole lol

Based on recent studies, mounjaro is superior in both its weight lose numbers and it’s glycemic control.

I wouldn't advise anyone to just start running unless they were fairly fit. But damn just stop inhaling carbs and sugar and monitor your Caloric intake to start with. It's sad that we have about 75% of a country that can't control themselves even to the point of death.
The biggest example of this is Eating yourself to death and screwing yourself to death. It's sad that people have no control, nor do they really understand it's in their own control. So we have Mounjaro and PrEPs. You don't have to be Mr. Triathlon, just put the fork down and stop eating carbs and sugar to start with and stop having sex with randos in bathrooms.

I was stuck here for years until I discovered low intensity cardio. Once I stopped running every run like a race and started running them very casually, the pounds melted off. My VO2 test said that a heart rate of 140 was my max fat burn. Literally melts a 1/4 pound per hour at that rate.

Man, I need a separate thread for this. How did you calculate that?

BCBS of Lousiana has it on the list of covered drugs.

Does this mean it needs the diabetic distinction or does it just need to be prescribed? Where do I look for prices?

You have to log into your insurance provider's portal and search for it or call them. I did both. I hate rabbit holes!
Anyway, mine covers it for both diabetes and weight loss at the rate I posted above. Still don't need it but good info for whoever is following this thread. Call your insurance provider and ask!

It really is insurance specific.
