I know you can hit them twice and you can still grow even if not sore, but man, I love hitting everything once a week and getting so sore it hurts. I can feel the torn fibers and it’s the best feeling ever knowing the growth that comes with repair and recovery.
Helps also that I’m dedicating years to growth. When in a hurry I always ended up more fat than anything.

Nothing wrong with focusing on one muscle group per workout. It’s a marathon. Find the speed that works for you. Eat healthy. Get sleep. Stay away from booze as much as possible.

Right on.

Booze, I gave up over 10 years ago.
Sugary snacks? Now that’s a horse of a different color.
I am however getting almost 200g of protein a day weighing 163 lbs.

What’s the advantage of working out a muscle group just once a week?

i try to do everything twice a week but have been experimenting with legs once a week over the last month.

ive been finding a significant strength improvement and gains doing so.

i might experiment with that with other groups to see. i think everyone and every muscle group will be a little different.

my chest is such a poor responding group i think i need to up them to 3x a week

Nothing other than the pump feeling from beating the muscle into a pulp

I am a fan of hitting the muscles groups twice a week. One day for strength (low reps/heavy weight) and the other for size (high reps/light weight)

And those pesky little things called growth and strength gains.

Some people will hit them twice a week thinking they’re doing great but see little growth. Chances are they’re not lifting to failure and for sure not getting sore. With once a week, and failure, guaranteed growth.

That is, us nattys

Science says you are wrong, but do whatever works for you, but know once a week splits aka body part splits were developed by enhanced lifters.

But I’m sure you already knew that

After a week of squatting almost every day, I’m thinking five times a week might be best.

Exactly. I’ll keep getting bigger while others stay the same size.

Well once a week is not wrong and that was how original 531 was. Jim has since left that thought though and many new templates have you hitting twice a week.

hell na, i love bro splits, if im being honest its my favorite way of training, i love the feeling of killing a muscle....its just not the best as far as muscle growth or strength goes, not even close.

growth comes mainly from volume and progressive overload. one can do more volume over 2 training sessions than 1 especailly when it comes to meaningful sets (2-3 reps until failure). its pretty clear from the scientific studies, all you have to do is read schoefields and beardsley's work or read Dr israetel's books or dr stevenson's book, or go read practical programming etc

those principles are why dc training, fortitude training, barbell medicine, paul carters, john meadows etc all work so well. they take the princples and apply them.

Yes, 28yrs later still doing them..

No need for all these fancy named workout programs...

Find something you like and stick to it religiously and you will see results.

If it's what you enjoy then do it. I think it's smart to change it up every once in a while for the new stimulus, but it's probably more about whatever keeps you coming back for more.

I've started benching 3x a week recently, and I've seen really good results. Just be careful and watch out for elbow tendinitis.
