Just wanted to post that today marks 1 year since I started my weight-loss journey. I started 11/4/21 @ 280 lbs. As of today I'm at 239 lbs. I did not hit my initial goal of 225 lb. I could give excuses, but I don't want to use them as a crutch. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy with my progress. 41 lbs loss is a nice number, but I'm more excited about the work ethic I have formed over the last year. My routine and willingness to push myself is night and day different from last November.

I'm still using cable machines and not free weights. My new goal is to hit 225 lbs by 1/1/23. At that time I'm going to move to free weights and pair up with one of the guys at the gym. I want to make sure that I'm doing the exercises correctly and safely. I want to get acquainted with the different excercises and my current limits on them. Looking at some of the PPA programs yall do it's overwhelming currently.

I've only recently started recording my food and water intake (as of 10/5). I tried to track my food when I first started but it was just too overwhelming with everything else I was trying to change at the same time. So over the last 30 days I'm right at 2300 calories a day. I'm tracking everything using the Samsung Health app and based on height, weight, etc my target calorie intake is 2776. I'm trying to get my daily average closer to 2k.

I'm not necessarily looking for any specific advice, but just wanted to post as a way to keep myself accountable. I plan on updating on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

UPDATE - 11/28
Rough few weeks (expanded post in thread), but down 2 lbs to 237 lbs. Time to get my nose down and start grinding again.

Everybody has to start somewhere, man. This board is turning in to a solid community. We also share tips, lessons learned, and ask/answer questions. Just jump in any time. The PPSA plans are challenging, bit a lot of fun doing them as a group.

280 down to 239 and packing on muscle is pretty impressive.
Don’t sell yourself short buddy. That’s a quite important feat. Great job and keeping moving forward

That’s where I was last year. I wanted to do Squatober but chickened out because it was so new to me. Google any exercise you don’t know and you’ll find great how to videos. Start light and go for it.

I still see exercises I’ve never heard of but now I like that because it keeps things fresh. I had to google one a couple days ago.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I thought very hard about jumping on the November Arm Farm thread. I looked at the sample sheets posted on PPSA and I don't know my current maxes so trying to figure out the 67%, 70%, etc just wasn't going to happen right now.

Has there been any discussion on what yall may run in Jan? If so, I'll get the plan and try to figure out maxes ahead of time to join in.

The group hasn't decided yet, but I bought the Seesaw and that's what I'm going to run. Really enjoyed the Seesaw squat days in Squatober.

You can use a 1RM calculator to figure out a max without actually going to failure.

We haven’t decided yet but many are running deadcember or all I want for Christmas is a big bench in December so it will be either 4 day or 3 day. If you don’t know what to run, run grasshopper

No kidding, that's great! Think of it like this:

You know those 45lb plates at the gym? You basically lost a whole one of them. They aren't light. Very impressive, and keep going!

11/28 Update:
I haven't updated the thread as I would've liked. It's been a rough few weeks and I've been out of sync on everything. Had a semi-unexpected 2k mile road trip that took me off schedule and had me eat more fast food in 3 days that I do typically in 3 months. Spent 2 days at school related functions for my youngest daughter (field trip and field day). The field trip while long, was easy. The day helping with their field day was rough, not sure how many buckets of water I hauled. Arms were mush afterwards for several days.

Got back on my workout schedule Friday. Ended up only missing 2 weight days, but several cardio days. I had also started noticing some pain in my knee. I'm pretty sure it was from pushing just too hard over the last 2.5 months cycling. I cut that down to 3 days per week (instead of 7) for now and instead moved to adding inclined walking on the treadmill.

I was actually relieved this morning that I am down 2 lbs since last update (237 lbs currently). I was expecting to be up several.

I like using the elliptical when doing cardio. My knees aren't what they used to be, and I've always had bad ankles. I find that the lack of impact on the joint with the elliptical to be beneficial. It may not burn as many calories per minute as incline walking, but because I dislike it less than the other forms of cardio, I'm more likely to stay consistent with it. I can still get my heart rate up to the desired zone.

Just another option if joint pain is a thing for you.

Thanks for the suggestion! I typically start my workout with a 20 min brisk walk. Then move into lifting and finish with ~30 min cycling. I'll try swapping out the post-workout cycling for the elliptical instead. I hate the idea of cutting out the 2nd cardio completely.
