Why does my lob wedge hate me ?

I clean it after every round and treat it nice.
But it continues to betray me.
On #18, 30 yards out on a par 5, hit it anywhere on the green and 2 putt for even par on the back , my best effort since my spine surgery 8 months ago.
I think, hit it crisp, stop it on a dime and at worse 2 putt. Easy shot.....
Well, it betrays me again, I digged a 4 inch hole in the ground and the ball goes 10 feet. Took a 6 on the hole.
So now, it's in the closet and will never see the light of day until the horrific memory fades. Only to return to the bag and break my soul again..

It’s a hard club to hit well and a pain in the arse to master.
I’ve always been terrible
with it.

Mine has been in the closet for years.

Do you think you swayed or dipped?
I do those at times, usually at bad times.
I may start just hitting those shots with my feet close together.

I like to watch Dan Grieve short game videos on YouTube. He has "for emergencies only" printed on his lob wedges for a reason.

use it in the sand or close chipping.. use your sand for everything else.

A few questions.
What's your bounce on the 60?
What kind of grass does your home course utilize around the green?
What's your setup look like? Ball position, hand position, stance narrow or wide?
Are you trying to hit down on the ball? Are you trying to flip and help the ball? Are you trying to utilize the bounce?
What is your swing plane looking like? Are you trying to take it outside and hit a cut shot on the short shots? Are you getting flat and inside and trying to draw it?
What's your grip pressure doing? Do your arms feel still over the ball? What do your wrist angles look like? Are your knees flexed?
The most important question might be- What's your most common miss? Once you figure that out, you can figure out a setup that focuses on elimination of that miss.
For me, I'm more prone to hit the ball fat on a short shot than thin. So my setup and swing thoughts center around avoiding the fat shot since I don't have to worry about hitting them thin.

It’s not just you.
You only have to see a pro chunk one to know they all wait patiently for the chance to strike.
Much like my dog who waited 10 years for my son in law to drop his guard, next thing you know the screaming starts and he’s got my dog latched onto his ankle.
They’re evil things. And since I said that I’m going to chunk one today for sure.

One reason lob wedges should always be fitted outdoors is so you can see how far they go when you throw them.
I don’t throw clubs, but I did destroy a wedge after using it as a shovel once on a greenside shot from moist (almost mud) ground. Just buried it and lost my mind for a moment.

With my lob and pitching wedges on the chipping practice green, you’d think I have a PGA tour card in my pocket. On the course, I’m bopping it everywhere, overshooting the green, etc. etc. Frustrating.

Can relate. Very frustrating.

Had a hell of a round going with my father in law last weekend, 3 birdies and 3 doubles.
All three doubles had something to do with 58* frickery. One was an 80 yard shot that is usually my max distance with that club and somehow hit a perfectly flighted, spinning fade, 20 yards past the green. Not even thin. Have never hit that shot in my life with anything other than a 50*.
The rest were pure chili dips.
I hate and love that club so much.

Sounds like it's time for the Old Alien Wedge.

10* bounce, 58 degree TM M5 raw
Feet close together
Didn't look up - I am very aware of where my head is because of my neck surgery.
Fairways are firm right now.
I can say two things, I have owned every top lob wedge made and they have all be cruel.
The only one that was somewhat dependable was my original Ping Eye 2.

Fluffy greenside lie to a short pin is the only time mine comes out anymore.

I'm curious why you keep trying. All of these changes show that it's not the arrow, it's the Indian. Hit less loft and play for the reduction in spin.

I have never ever been able to hit with a lob wedge. Never. I've given up on it...the trusty sand wedge works just fine.

That's what I use. I can hit it great on the range. It could be a solid 85 yard club. The problem is that I will catch it a little thin on the course and then it's a 130 yard club.
