I think the number one most frustrating thing in golf is being behind hackers who play the tips.

Actually had some guys tell me they played the tips because they paid to play the whole course. None can come close to shooting 90 from the reds.

Why do they use ProV1s? when their ballstriking sucks? They're idiots.

I play whatever is around 6,200 yards. If I get closer, I’m not able to use driver much at all. No clue how you’re supposed to select tee boxes.

If you are hitting mostly mid iron approaches into par 4s you are likely too far back.

I play around 6000 yards.

I don’t want to have to use a fairway wood to get to most par 4s in 2.

It’s all about ego.

Im a decent golfer. At 7K+ yards, I’m miserable, bc I’m hitting long irons all day after smashing the ball off the tee.

Me too. I look at whatever the shortest par 5 is, if I hit 2 perfect shots can I reach it in two, that’s the tees I play.

As of today, that works out to around 6000 yards most courses, white tees at RTJ Prattville which is my home course now.

I had 5 birdies and shot even thanks to a couple poor decisions. Could I play some holes from the Orange tees instead? Sure, but why?

Want me and my bad back and arthritic hands to hurt worse? Or just be happy I had a really good day and enjoyed my round from the white tees. I’m in my 60’s, I’m not going to hit it any further than I do today.

I’m staring at the gold tees as it is, I know they’re in my not so distant future.

Guy in our group had friends in town that played with us and they said this. Think they shot 110 and one guy quit on the back 9

One rule of thumb is to multiply your 5-iron carry distance by 36.

7600 yards as an 8 HCP.. I’ll pass on this rule.

I never see it happen around here. I do see people playing from the whites that still can't finish under 5 hours.

You’re average carry distance, not your best shot carry distance

Your average carry 5I is over 210 yards?

I'm a 3.5 and hit it longer than anybody I play with and my 5I carry is 205. If smoke it I can go over 210 but you would be the farthest I've ever seen an 8 average carry a 5I.

Either way, that method is a little off for me too, I definitely don't prefer playing 7,200+.

This makes more sense. I interpreted the rule of thumb as stock 5 iron distance not average. I’m not sure what my average would be. Seems like it would be a tough number to keep track of especially for mid-high handicaps like myself
