I’ve been playing golf for 30 years, and fluctuated between 2 and 6 handicap after I “peaked” but I still have a tendency to lift my head during the swing. My miss is usually a push and sometimes a thin shot which correlates with getting too far on the left side before impact. I have to often remind myself “keep your head down.” I think part of the problem has been that I have a really large shoulder turn that causes me to strain to keep my eye on the ball at the top of my swing if I raise up during the swing. Reminding myself to keep my head down forces me to rotate more on my spine angle which makes it less likely that my head will struggle to stay down during the backswing and the downswing. I also tend to struggle more with longer clubs because my spine angle is more upright which increases the risk of my shoulder turn pulling my head or of the way.

I’m genuinely interested in what others’ swing thoughts are that might be beneficial.

Mines kind of dumb but it’s “be athletic”

I’m a 5 cap and I often get way too focussed on swing technique leading to miss hits. I think be athletic to remind myself that I’m a good athlete and if I just hit the ball without worrying about perfect form I’ll almost always make solid contact

Irons it's keep my right shoulder tucked. I have a tendency to chicken wing it if I don't think about it. Chipping is to keep my hands in front of my clubhead.

Both of those come natural for the most part but I still think of it before most swings.

My driver and 3 wood shaft is heavier than I have ever hit so I do have to tell myself to simply swing hard. A "let me take some off of it, make sure it's nice and smooth" doesn't work with my shafts.

Start the swing with opening my right shoulder (right handed golfer).

i try not to have swing thoughts rather i try to find a feel. IMO having swing thoughts are good for the range and working on incremental improvement, but when you get on course it can lead to you having way too much going on mentally

When I play my best, it just happens naturally.

When I struggle, thoughts abound.

“Finish with my hips towards the target.”

Had a bad swaying problem develop this year and that has helped get keep me from doing that as much.

Grip it ‘n rip it!

JK, go to thought is always “push back, pull through”. Helps me control the handle, and if you control the handle, you control the club face…

Keep my left arm tight to my chest on the backswing. Chest pushes left arm back to the ball.

My main swing thought is to get my left arm parallel with the ground on my backswing then start my downswing. This creates a full turn and limits your backswing ; which is a good thing. If I do this I almost always finish with my weight on my left side.

Don’t get quick at the top. If I do I’m over the top.

Feel my center of gravity sync up with the moment I strike the ball. Helps me with both tempo and getting my hips through.

You suck

Don’t frick this up

You’re gonna push it right again

Come on focus

You’ve been standing here too long

It’s been a while since you shanked one

Is that person 15 yards down right in front of me in play

Don’t kill him

And then I swing. In that order, at least every tee shot
