Best- Chipping
Worst- Ball striking

I've settled on a club (54) that I take 90% of my chip shots with and I think it's made a great deal of difference. I've holed out two from off the green in my last two rounds and have gotten a lot more consistent at giving myself a makeable putt.

My ball striking is a bit all over the place on my approach shots which can make for some high scores. A fat shot and a toe miss are my most common issues with my irons, and it's a pretty typical round for me at the moment to have more shots like that than center club face shots that fly where I want them to

Driver off the tee is 50/50 as is putting. Some days it's on and some days it's off. My game around the green has saved some strokes for me lately, but it would be nice to put it all together one day.

Chipping, putting and Iron play from within 165

Driving the ball, and longer shots kills me.

I'm tempted to just hit a 6 iron every shot until I get on the green

I've gotten very comfortable chipping with an 8 iron off the green as recommended by Rick Shiels. I've also taken that same philosophy with 7 and 6 irons for some bump and run shots that have worked out well.

I've also been hitting some very good flop shots with my 60 degree CBX2

driving the ball is still the bane of my game.

I'm playing on my regular course saturday morning and plan to use 3 wood off the tee sans the two wide open par 5s.

My thought process is that the extra 20-30 yards aren't going to help me more than a ball OB is going to hurt me.

I'm still treating every round as an opportunity to practice on my whole game, but I'm curious what I can put up with a little more strategy. We usually play in the afternoons and drink considerably. 7:30 tee time will be different as well.

Have you tried waterbottle drill and buying some foot spray to work on your striking?

Has helped me a shite ton, moreso with my driver than anything.

Do you work on de-lofting your irons and shaft bend? doing that initially and swinging a lot easier can really help consistency.

Look up Tiger/JTs wedge warm up swing tempo, thats a really good way to get back to basics on ball striking.

Plus if you're that comfortable chipping, maybe ease up on shooting at the pin and focus more on hitting straight or just the bigger green in general if you aren't.

Aiming at greens vs flags has helped my scores come way down.

I’m most consistent with my alcohol intake.

I’m least consistent with the golf.

Best-Driving and Putting
Worst- 1) Long clubs from fairway lies. 4iron-3w I am absolutely terrible at. I am rarely able to take advantage of Par-5s as a result. I figure this costs me 4-6 shots per round if not more
1A) Chipping/Pitching from tight lies. I routinely skull these shots over the green or lay sod over the ball attempting not to skull the ball over the green. This costs me multiple shots per round as well.

Water bottle drill helped eliminate my slice off the tee and fixed my path.

I understand the physics behind what you're asking here but not sure about the technique regarding putting it into practice.

My swing isn't consistent yet and I really don't expect it to be yet. I just started playing the game in april so I'm not expecting to hit my 7 iron like Morikawa, I just want to improve my consistency.

Best - chipping and short irons
Worst - woods (other than driver) and putting

I used to love my 3 wood and hybrid. Now both seem to have a 10% success rate. I'll hit a 4 iron now before a 3 wood and just chip, which isn't always bad considering I can't putt for shite. I lack the patience and know-how to read greens.

Strength- Driver and irons

Weakness- long chips and pitches. Lag putting.

Started tracking my game more (6 rounds so far) and keeping stats. Currently at a 6.2 handicap. I hit 68% of fairways and 55% of greens. But average 34 putts and scramble percentage is 51%.

Need to dedicate more time to practicing the short game. I think I could get under a 5 handicap if I clean that stuff up.

Chris Ryan and Clay Ballard have some good stuff on this if you haven't checked them out.

Not quite as new as you but only bought my first clubs in 2018 so def. know where you're coming from.

What irons are you hitting?

Ball striking and putting are my best. My worst is def driving accuracy. I’ve gotten so caught up in my head making adjustments that I’m spraying it all over the place. When I’m driving the ball well I’m in the mid to low 70s. When that driver is wild i could shoot any number. It’s infuriating.

My driver and long iron play has been pretty damn good recently. The driver is still iffy at times with a wild high right block or the occasional snap hook (usually when I get too tired or drunk), but the misses are becoming fewer and further between. If there were such a thing, I would be gaining 5 - 7 shots on the field off the tee for my equivalent handicap. Been hitting a lot of nice, solid, shot-gaining 3/4/5 irons recently as well.

My wedge game and pitching and chipping has been absolutely atrocious. Equivalent to losing 5 - 7 shots or more on the field for my equivalent handicap.

To give some idea of the dichotomy, I've had several rounds recently where I've played an entire side or even the entire 18 without having more than a full PW into every non-par 3 hole and couldn't break 40/80.

Lag putting has been spotty in the last round or two, but that seems temporary.

Best: putting

Absolute, unequivocally, undoubtedly, 100% worst: driver

Idk what happened but I completely lost my driver a couple of months ago and can't find it.
