What the heck has happened to Spieth?

I’m one of those “mostly majors” followers, and I catch “Full Swing” from time to time. So, familiar, but not passionate.
That being said, why has Spieth fallen so far? In the Full Swing coverage, he looked pretty committed to conditioning. Now looks a bit doughy.
Has he already hit the “cruising altitude” phase?

It's a lot of little things:
1. His run in the mid teens was fueled by unsustainable putting
2. He's not as long as many of the best players (although he has improved lately)
3. Wrist injury
4. He does a lot of dumb shite. He's the anti-Scotty in course strategy
5. His approach game is nowhere near where it was when he was winning

unsustainable putting

There is a lot of truth about that insane putting he had. It wasn’t sustainable but that’s not really his issue. Hes can’t keep it on the golf course anymore. Now, he always sprayed it around but was phenomenal in his recovery shots. He was just a gamer. But he’s even lost that aspect of it. He’s changed his swing countless times but at this point he just isn’t a very good golfer. Wife and kids will distract you from being all in and right now he needs to be all in. That just isn’t his reality

There's a lot of factors there that are preventing him from being the best he can be.
- too much early success without having to grind. He's been set for life financially for 10 years. He's not fighting for anything except his tour card and legacy.
- scars from 2016 masters collapse
- overthinking every shot
- keeps "yes men" around him.
- naturally shorter hitter trying to chase distance to keep up.
- poor course management, partly because he doesn't really need money or status so he takes a lot of risks when he should just be playing consistent solid golf. He shoots himself out of a lot of tournaments going for broke instead of taking what the course is giving.

One of the greatest in history.
Arguably the best putting in history.
He's never been the same since 12 at Augusta.

I wouldn’t call his caddie a yes man

He’s not who he was but this is tad harsh. He’s played better this year. He’s a top 30 golfer in Data Golf rankings.

Watching him this week at the PGA he looks a jittery, nervous wreck over the ball.
No way I see him playing his best golf looking like that.

He’s def much improved this year. But he just isn’t a guy anyone is afraid of anymore. There isn’t a week that comes where i feel like he’s a legit threat to truly win or dominate. He’s beyond inconsistent and even more erratic than he’s ever been. He finally got rid of that chicken wing thing he had going on and his swing does look much better but, have the results been much different? Not really

Everyone trying to analyze the fall of Spieth and Fowler (although Fowler was never that elite TBH), needs to stop looking beyond distance.
They came up in the game right before the transition of distance = dominance. They are the last of the generation of shorter hitters that can compete. They just can’t keep up with the bombers now. Same thing happened to Max Homa who was supposed to be an up and coming star. And guys like Finau became average because their distance isn’t an advantage anymore.
Luckily for Rory power was already a strength of his so the change in the game didn’t hurt him at all.
Think about it, what truly elite golfer out there today isn’t at least above average as far as length? Guys like Spieth are stuck having to sacrifice accuracy for distance and it makes it really hard for them to compete

Worth $120 million
Multiple major winner
Beautiful family
31 years old
I’d say he can take it easy for life.

I’m having a hard time thinking of anyone more consistently wrong than you are in here

Morikawa is pretty elite and doesn’t even hit ball as far as Spieth does.
