Ingrid Lindbland played in the 2019 Women’s Open before she started at LSU that fall

Opps
She hasn’t been on the team in 2 years
ETA: and for your reference, Lindbland was 19 when she made her first major…..So according to you she wasn’t close to high level

Not majors but quite a few played in pro tournaments
He needs to admit his comment was asinine

So she needed to make birdie to make it to state? She ain’t making birdie by hitting 8 iron there. Trying to get it as close to the green as possible is the best way to make birdie. It was probably the correct decision. Some times it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Golf is hard and you just have to move on.

you need to tell her don’t listen to a single thing the HS coach says. Tell her to be respectful but don’t listen That goes for any high level golfer or tennis player who has a high school “coach” try and teach them
Yea. Do not do this.

There are tons of stories of high school girls playing in lpga events. One name I remember is Tessa Teachman. Think she made a New York lpga tourney at 15 or 16. She never sniffed the lpga tour. Golf is a sport where everything needs to click to be elite. Your swing. Your thoughts. Your nerves. They must all click. Sometimes that click comes early. Sometimes late. Sometimes never. And every lesson learned along the way is valuable. Good and bad.

Look a true coach with the best advice here. Crazy.

The arguments that break out on this board make me question the sanity of 95% of the people in here. Why the heck do I ask yall for golf tips?

For the 2% who actually know sometime. Most of the comments are from golf digest or YouTube swing tips.

This thread is a perfect example of why youth sports are awful now. There’s absolutely no accountability, it’s always the coaches fault.
It didn’t even occur to OP that the coach was potentially challenging someone he considers a high level golfer knowing she needs a birdie. Maybe the coach has confidence in her being aggressive that your daughter doesn’t have in herself.
Instead of helping your daughter develop in those spots your solution is to light up the ADs office, who I assure you does not care. If your daughter wants to play at a high level you better make a lot of birdies. Laying up on par 5s isn’t how you do that.

Where exactly is the accountability there?
This thread is getting blown out of proportion and hyperbolic all over the place

Unfortunate advice but you might as well write if off as a teaching moment. She's just a Freshman, she'll have other opportunities.
If anything I'd mention to the coach not to give club advice in the future. And tell your daughter to obviously not listen to his club selection advice if he insists on giving it. She has to pay the price of the bad shot, not him.
Though it sounds like a layup/punchout shot of the pond was maybe the play since it was a par 5

Forget the score on that hole.
Tell the kid to learn from the experience because there will be thousands of more holes and tournaments. The big lesson here is, "I scored a 9 - what's the next hole look like?"
The REAL teaching moment here is for the parent. If you really want your kid to succeed at a high level, you better chill out. Because stuff like this is exactly what causes kids to burn out and drop out of a sport. I know because it happened to me at that age. This may be life and death to an adult but, to a kid, it has to be fun. Put too much pressure on them and they will take the most reasonable way out of that pressure. They will quit playing.

She didn’t need a birdie at the time she bogied the next hole cause she was on tilt from the 9. She just needed to par the last 4 holes. She would have been hitting a PW or 9 iron at most from her intended layup.

As someone that was a HS Golf coach while my daughter was in school I can say that this is pretty damn accurate...
Can't tell you how many matches that some of the other coaches where they were primarily other sport coaches and most had extremely basic knowledge of the game..
I also understood that I was in zero position to dictate club selection .. I would merely suggest what i would do but ultimately always left that decision up to the girls.. Because at the end of the day they have to hit the shot they feel the most comfortable with..

There is your teaching moment. The next shot is always the thought.
