In the early 1900s that was about as fat as you could find.

A 2.8 handicap would require any person to play golf a minimum of 4 times a week.

A 6.7 would require a minimum of 3 times a week.

Golf isn't like riding a bike. It takes constant practice.

Most certainly a person who has a 2 handicap could take a few months off and go out and shoot a 78. But note a handicap is essentially your best score average. The handicap takes your top 10 scores of your last 20 rounds.
So, a 2.8 handicap would require someone to average around a 74 for half of your rounds. You just can't do that playing sporadically.

Okay, I know noting about Taft so I believe you when you say he was a good golfer. His 20 handicap is believable then.

Exactly. I worked my handicap down to 8 right out of college because I had the time to play 4 days a week. Then I got married and had kids.

Which makes me think the handicap scores listed have to be their best handicaps ever.

Agree with your point here, and will say if you are playing the same course(s) for those 20 or so rounds; very good chance you will be able to knock that handicap down a bit just from a comfort level & knowledge of how the course plays.

I believe Trump's handicap. The man has been involved in golfing his entire life. Biden I don't believe at all. The man lies about everything. The Bush presidents, Clinton, Ford, and Obama I could also buy.

I do not believe that Trump today is a 2.8. He probably hasn’t hit a putt inside 6 feet in years.

I don’t believe Biden at any point in his life was a ever single digit handicap.

The rest are believable assuming in their prime.

Taft was around 330lb, about the 98th percentile for modern day US males. Now, in that golf photo, he may have slimmed a bit.

Everyone from the 12s and down.

All the others, no chance.

I bet Ford was a 12 as well as HW. Both outstanding athletes

Trump a 2. That bastard lies about everything.

Playing it down and thru he doesn’t break 90

Trump is a known cheater on the golf course and in life. I wouldn't believe half of what he says.

Eisenhower was probably an 18 which means on a good day he could break 90 on an average course. At Augusta National, Ike probably rarely broke 90.

Taft looks believable. I could believe Ford at 12.

The rest are “reverse sandbaggers.”

Clinton is probably not a 12. He’s probably 18 or more.

Joe Biden cannot play to a 7index. No way.

Trump is probably a 9 or so. I’d make him putt everything in member guest.

Kennedy and Roosevelt were crippled.

The Bushes probably were 18 or so.

Amazing how the leaders of the free world are able play so much and get their scores down….I am lucky to squeeze in one round a week.

That's not true at all. I know it's anecdotal, but you said anybody, but I have a buddy that's +3 and he plays about every other week. I don't really believe Trump is a 2.8, but it's not because he plays <4 times a week.

Yea. Everyone is different. Some people need to play 4+ times a week to be a single digit. Some people play once a month or less and can be a sub 5 handicap. All depends on ability level and talent.
