It seems ridiculous to me to even mention “they wouldn’t let my crew film the event”

He's providing context to his fan base, who might not be avid PGA tour followers and know those rules.

I’ve got no problem with the PGA Tour telling him no. They have television parters and sponsors to answer to.

They can’t let him have a whole crew of cameras out there while he throws up a 79-82 Missed Cut. Let him do it and 100 guys that can mop the floor with his arse are starting their own channels and hiring camera guys on Monday.

Bryson, who considers himself a YouTube golfer, content creator, whatever, works around it at majors. He filmed a whole practice round leading up to Oakmont, but once the tournament starts, it’s about the tournament.

He's not even a player, he is just a fan with a film crew.

I get turning down the offer but its pretty ridiculous he even got the invite in the first place. Could you imagine any other pro sports league giving playing time in an actual game/event to someone just for being a social media star? There's people in lower level tours grinding and fighting for that spot and they were going to just hand it to someone who didn't actually earn it.

There isn’t a single professional sports organization that would allow his personal cameras for the event

Not liv
Not nfl
Not nba
Etc etc

It’s completely unnecessary and ridiculous to say it. It’s not the reason and clearly crutch so just tell the truth or say nothing on why you don’t want to play

“I just want to turn down my invite, I would love to play but they won’t allow my pet elephant to be my caddy”

Good grief you're a miserable frick. I mean,

The only reason I was in the position to receive an invitation like this is because of YouTube and you all watching the videos, so if I’m going to play, we want film it.

He will be filmed. What’s the problem?

He can also bring “his crew” and film all kinds of content while there himself.

I do not have the contrarian take here

People are fighting because it me. Go look elsewhere. Majority of people think grants comments and stance is ridiculous

To think while playing an event they would even think about allowing personal film crews is insane

I don't really blame him. If he can't film it, then the PGA Tour is making money off of him while he is not gaining. This is his job. I don't watch Grant's channel, but I don't think what he is saying is wrong. I'm sure people are wondering why he wouldn't play. So, he is just explaining it.

His explanation is solid, but lately, he’s been all about whether he can hack it at a major or not. This PGA event was his shot to show what he’s got. He probably couldn’t film the actual rounds, but I bet he could’ve recorded practice rounds and stuff around the tournament for some good content.

Honestly, who cares? The Tour will keep going, and this YouTube golf thing is starting to feel played out.

Apparently not, there is a creator tournament happening at Big Cedar and Portnoy is ponying up a million to the winner. There’s plenty of eyeballs on it to justify the payout

But Grant makes money by videoing his experience and posting that content and if he can’t do that then that’s his choice. He could use that time towards something that would benefit him and I can’t blame him for that. Essentially he’d be working for free for a week.

He could absolutely create YouTube videos around the tournament and make money from it.

It’s his prerogative to do whatever he wants, and I do understand him explaining the PGA Tour rules around it to his followers.

I think the hard time a lot of people have with the way he’s explaining it is that it seems like he’s blaming this on the PGA Tour, and then you have his buddies (Bryan Bros and Phil) piling on. Like, they should make an exception for him because of how popular he is even though he has not done anything that would deserve a spot on the Tour.

No one here is arguing that he should be allowed to film the event.

But you seem to take great offense to his explanation to his millions of fans as to why he decided to not play. It's not weird for him to decline the invite graciously while also explaining to his fanbase (you know, the people that pay his bills) why he decided against participating.

Your take that he needs to decline the invite quietly and never bring up why he declined to play a PGA tour event is very very much a contrarian take.

This was always going to be a shite situation for him. Take the offer and he's going to be thrashed for stealing a spot and likely not making the cut. I don't say that to bash him, but it's just statistically likely. Don't take the offer, get backlash even providing a relatively logical reason why. I mean he's getting no exposure being 132nd place in a random tournament.

If he can't monetize the video with footage of him playing, is it worth it? I saw the Bryan Bros did a video on a DP tour even recently. They couldn't film, so you got after round recap....couldn't tell you if it was good, I had no desire to watch it.
