I'm a scrambler. If I can get off the tee in short grass then I'll put up a low number. I play the tips. I've never broken par playing the tips. I've played even par twice but the course rating was meh. The shorter the club the better shots I play. My putting is average to above average, and I usually miss short on longer putts.

At sea level I'm 260-280 with the driver, but I'm at 4000 elevation in SLC so I have a false sense of tee worthiness out here. I'm often hitting a creative second shot from tall grass to get back to par during a round.

Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde.
I can shoot 73 or 93 on any given day. God I love golf.

Good tee shot 8/10 times (fairway or a good spot)
Good approach 6/10 times (hit a green from a a decent lie)
Good chip 4/10 times (I suck)
Good putt 7/10 times (made or inside 3 ft.)

I normally start strong with a couple pars or par/bogey at worst. Have a bad hole (double), hit a little stride with a couple of pars and/or a birdie. Usually start the back with a disaster hole on 10/11, (triple or quad), lose focus for a few holes and make bogies and doubles. Then buckle down and finish par-birdie to make myself confident that next time will be better

The last time I got out, I played 9 holes.

I was +7 through the first 4 holes and +1 over the last 5. This is indicative of my usual 18 hole round where I shoot 50 on the front and 40 on the back.

Moments of greatness punctuated by meltdowns, but mediocre most of the time.

If my short game is sharp, I can score. I only have one issue in general, I’m often standing to close to the ball

After I hit it.

I generally go about 12-14 holes at +3 to +5 before posting a snowman and destroying any chance of breaking 80.

I can make birdies and just as easily make quads. Just let me know what you'd like to see

Compounding mistakes.

That’s the biggest thing that really stops me. If I miss a green I’m guaranteed to try and get cute with the chip and do something stupid.

When I miss a fairway, same thing.

I need a psychiatrist

I have basically averaged 90 for about 5 years now. I'll go through stretches shooting mid to low 80s for 4-5 rounds. Then I won't break 90 for 4-5 rounds. Since Covid, I have practiced way more, watched more Youtube videos, etc. You would think I would see improvement, but I'm still the same guy. I still can't wait for my next round.

I was once pretty good and now am not.

Played since I was 11 (currently 32)
Got better all the way through high school when I was on the varsity team and would average between a 36 and 40 per 9 from the tips with zero mulligans.

Took a few years off in early 20's.

Now I play from the tips with a mulligan each 9 and I can't break 90 to save my life

How I've missed this game.
