Cart girl - tip for free ice or no?

Was golfing yesterday with my wife and when the cart girl came, we only asked for ice to add to our cups. She happily provided free ice and quickly drove away before I could reach for my wallet to give her a few bucks. My wife thought I intentionally didn’t tip her and called me a bastard , but the truth is the girl drove off immediately and didn’t give me a chance.

Are any of you tipping for free ice or is it pretty standard for the girls to not expect a tip in this situation?

I tip every time I ask the cart girl for something, whether it’s a drink, just some ice or a wet towel that they keep in a cooler during the summer heat.

If I get something, she gets a tip. It’s a courtesy for the service and being out there dealing with the heat and drunks.

I thought so, weird that she just high-tailed it out of there as soon as she filled our cups. Maybe because my wife was with me? I wonder if I had been alone if she would've expected a tip. Who knows. Good to know I'm not the weird one in this situation though. Next time I see her I'll tip her better than normal to make up for it.

There are a couple really cute cart girls at my course, but I'm pretty sure they're either in high school or right out of high school. I'm at the age now where they only get a tip from me if I actually get something from them and I make sure I don't over tip like I would have 15 years ago . I'm too old for that shite now.

Guess you would consider me a sap. I tip generously, sometimes even when I don't want anything.

Cart girls brighten everyone's day.

Yes. Because you should have been tipping her on the drink you would have paid for instead of the drink you brought on the course (likely against the course rules). I do this, so no shade thrown.

You should have reached for your wallet BEFORE she gave you ice. She quickly drive away because she was pissed.

Your wife sounds like a bitch.
Divorce her and marry the cart girl. That’ll teach her.

You know the rules.

Could have gotten the cart girl too if only you would have tipped her.

I’m guilty for tipping on simple things if she’s hot and prob not if it’s a chubby older lady.

Interesting I don’t think I would have thought to tip there.

I usually only think to tip on things I purchase. Not just a scoop of ice out of her cooler

The tip?

Just the tip?

Headline confused me. I thought you meant “giver her the tip for free ice.

You mean $5 or some nominal amount.

Simple. She has ice you do not. Either drive back to the clubhouse and get ice or be a descent human being and tip for some ice.
