How long was it after your child was born before you snuck away for a few hours for a round? I'm itching to get back out there, but don't want to be "that guy" that leaves his wife at home for four more hours in the day.

Before my 1st was born I played 3x a week. After that I played 1-2x per week.

After 2nd was born I played 3x per month.

Once my 1st 2 kids got old enough for sports and my 3rd was born I play once every 2 months.

We went home on a Sunday. Next Saturday, I was playing.

ETA: It’s important to establish early that you are still going to go play. You don’t have to watch every single moment of the child’s life. Moms and babies need time to bond without dad. That can be their time. Also, if your MIL lives close, that’s a great time for her to visit. My daughter will be 4 in June and Saturday mornings my MIL still comes over to visit or they go shopping or something.

at the very least you get father's day now and possibly your birthday.

best to hit a 9 hole twilight in the summer , aka working late

Two answers

Go whenever the hell you are ready

Or

Wait for her to tell you when she is ready for you to go play

Each has benefits and issues

You will need to establish a new routine for when you go. Nothing wrong with getting out there, but take it slow, is my advice.

First time I played my wife called me crying about 90 minutes in and I had to abandon ship. I play most afternoons now, about 20 months later.

Need to get faster carts. I know the distance is great between the teeing ground and where your ball comes to rest, but this is absurd

First is almost a year old, and I'm creeping back up to 3x a month. Wife and kid ride with me for front 9, and I drop them off and finish up with a non-foursome group behind me.

I plan on trying to stay around 3x per month with some range sessions built in there.

I didn't sneak away. The first few months are more stressful on the mom than the kid/dad.
If she has help there (her mom, your mom), you can get away for a few hours, but she'll resent it some and want even more emotional support.
Marking the calendar for a round every weekend is a quick way to piss her off and strain your marriage.

After the kid is 3-6 months old, she'll need some alone/adult time. And you'll need some alone/adult time.
In addition, you need to do some couple activities.
That won't leave you much time left over, but what is left over.... you will just have to trade most of it for a round of golf.
Maybe 2-4 rounds a month.
As the kid gets older, that number seems to be able to increase.... especially if she sets up play dates with other moms/kids.

With my last kid wife and baby were still in the hospital and I went play. But my wife told me to and she wasn’t mad when I got back so it wasn’t a trap. Some of y’all need better wives

He really does. He’s got like 12 kids and plays more golf than anyone I know.

I play more now with 4 than I did when I only had 1. It has more to do with my job than kids though

Family came in for each child, so I actually got out within a week of each one being born. It was my reward for sleeping on that shitty hospital pullout and changing the first 80 diapers.

Then it was a few months later for the next round.
