We've done this thread in the past LINK.

What are your golf goals this coming year?

I'm going to keep mine simple this year:

- Putt at night. I want to putt at the house after the kids go to bed once or twice a week for ten minutes. I've got a putting mat and a spot it can stay setup all the time. This one should be easy, but for some reason, it isn't.

- Play all 18 holes. I tend to get relaxed towards the end of the round if I'm not close to breaking a personal best and it probably costs me a shot or two because I lose focus. I also get tired/dehydrated/hungry on the last few holes. I need to focus on eating and drinking during the round.

- Play smart. I'm more aggressive than I need to be, for a variety of reasons. This year, it's going to be fairways and centers of greens.

- Lower my handicap. In years past, I've had goals, but this year I'm not aiming at a particular index. Just trying to go lower.

I'll probably add more to this as we get closer to New Years.

More practice. I have plenty of room to hit 70-30 yard shots. When I hit a few times a week, my ball striking gets batter. It translates to the whole game.

I want to hit balls 2/3 times a week in my yard.

Play with a purpose.
When I used to play my Saturday morning “points“ game I would always be hunting that number. I need 30 points to make today. I would keep that number in my head and will give me something on which to focus. Now I just go play and see what happens. I need to focus on my game and not what’s happening around me.

ETA:
drop 30 more lbs
Get and stay below 3.0 index

Shoot in the 80's two times more than I shoot in the 100's. Go to the range or practice more than just going play 18 and trying to figure it out. Practice chipping and putting at least 3 times a week for at least 1 hour. Get fitted for a driver.

Last year:

1) get below a 1.0 (currently 2.0)
- I got down to a +0.8
2) play the tips more
- definitely did this
3) more consistent chips and pitches
- failed
4) sell the stuff that’s collecting dust
- sold a bunch of stuff over the summer

This year:

1) lose 40 lbs
2) get and stay below a 2.0 all year
3) get my name up on one of our clubs championship boards. Got 2nd place twice this year
4) again, more consistent chips and pitches. When I lose my feel for those shots, it’s completely gone
5) beat my personal best round of 66

LONG GAME:

1. Add 20 yds to Drive.
- How : Develop hip turn to generate more power at impact

2. Decrease extreme R to L ball flight on longer irons
- How: Stop swinging so damn hard. Develop better tempo

SHORT GAME:

1. Throw darts from inside 80 yds
- How: Practice w/ 3 wedges. Learn my distance on full, 3/4, and 1/2 swings

2. Develop Options Greenside
- How: Practice bumps with different clubs, as well as flops, chips, and pitches.

PUTTING:

1. Target less than 33 putts per round
- How: Work on smooth pendlum motion through ball as opposed to striking ball.
- How: Improve alignment
- How: Use larger muscles ( ie shoulders) in putting
- How: Stop trying to die the ball into cup...putt just beyond cup

Reduce Index to 10:

1. Implement all of above
- How: Lessons every 2 weeks

2. Drop weight
- How: Personal Trainer

3. Gain Strength and Flexibility:
- How: Personal trainer

Man it helps! I’ve lost 25 since the beginning of November. I’ve got 30-40 more to go.
It messes with your swing for sure, but it helps.

Need to get better from 180-220. Long par 3’s are killing me. Saw slight improvement in September-October, but the shitty weather since has cut my practice time.

Play more than 5 times in a year. Used to be 40- times a year. Still shot under in 3 of the 5 rounds though

Goal is to shoot par or better at least 3 times in 2023 and get the handicap down to 3 or lower.

Shot +4 in my last round of 2022 yesterday and the same score in my first round of 2023 today.

Thinking of the shots I left on the course the last couple rounds, I should be able to get the handicap down and get to par or below.

Get to single digit index. Currently 11.5. Was as low as 10.2 in July
Better career low of 79 (5 times, last time in June)
Win club championship net division

The first goal you stated might interfere with this goal.

Club Pro Guy likes elite net players to live at 10 to 12. Especially if you actually can stand and deliver back to back 79s in competition.

It is the Zone where you can play well, but still have enough pops to help the cause.

My goal is to start playing again and get my son involved. I loved this game as a teenager but haven’t played more than a round or two in a decade. I just moved next to a small rural club and hope to have my 4 year old out with me soon.

Play more, I was so busy last year I didn’t get but a couple rounds a month in.

Actually practice some. Hit balls on the range, practice chipping…something.

Current HCP 18 was as high as 23 over the summer.

1. Eliminate 3 putts
2. Keep it in play
3. Increase vision( shaping shots, allowing the course to determine shot I take instead of attempting things I shouldn’t and making my score worse)
4. Intent focus on mental preparation before and during every round.
5. Hit more greens
6. Break 80

1) get fitted for new driver.... Check

2) get fitted for better irons.... Monday

3) practice and play more, been it's golf for 3 years with work and kids

4) shoot low 80's consistently, would love to get into the 70's but I'm adding way away. Club fitting will do along way for me. My current setup is 7 years old and wasn't fitted for all of it.

Play more on Fridays.

Mondays are oddly slow so I will start going to the range after work every Monday. (I have to pass it to get home anyway)

Lower my round average to <85.

Actually get fitted.

Swing mechanics took a huge hit the last 3 years. Too much work. Not enough golf.
