Skulled one bad on a layup today. Very hard fairway ground.

It’s a 70% gap for me. I don’t get enough spin on my PW when I take that much off. Doesn’t hold a green as much as I’d like. YMMV

I use either a 48 degree Cleveland Rtz wedge or 54 degree Rtz wedge - depending on slope etc

Intentional topped driver goes about 100 and pretty straight on firm fairways
But in all seriousness, I either hit a 80% SW (54). Hands to upper chest in backswing, 7/10 swing speed.
Or a 67% PW (47). Choke down 2 inches, hands to mid chest in backswing, 5.75/10 swing speed. I use this shot in the wind.

I'll do a full 55 to a front pin, 3/4 50 into a mild breeze, and I have this shot where I take my hands to about waist high with a pitching wedge with to get a low one if the wind is really howling.

100 yards is a perfect full swing 58° for me, or a smooth 54°. I need to practice hitting 100 yards with other clubs though.

Full Gap Wedge for me.
Any time I try to take something off a club dealing with hard pan it's a disaster.

Never hit any wedge full, always club up and hit a 70-80% shot with a lower flight.

Simple answer is yes a PW or GW knock down is your answer with a tight lie and feel is off. Back foot, land it short and roll it up. I’ve been doing it more recently when I’m not feeling confident over a shot

I really really have to work on my wedge play. Problem is that is I use my 52 degree for 110 and in. I have a 54, 56 and a 58 in my bad but I suck with them.
I overswing bad with my irons and I dont have my hands forward enough.

Are they different grinds and bounces?
Seems like the gapping is sort of tight if not.

Get your yardages. I use a launch monitor to get mine.
So depending on the circumstance either a 52 or gap wedge. Unless the green is very firm neither is going far from where it lands.

Typically I’m hitting my 54 degree at that distance ..
But if I’ve got a sketchy lie where the ground feels like a rock I’ll typically pitch my 8 or 9 iron especially if nothing is in the way. Just get it to run up there as close as possible.
If I have to get the shot in the air a bit more my 50 degree back of my stance and a little more a half shot.
Hell I’ve hit a long chip with a 7w before.
Situation dictates the club and what I’m comfortable with that particular day.
