Your favorite "little thing" in a video game

Not necessarily the most popular or meme'd moment, just something you'd only really know by actually playing the game.
Maybe not my favorite, but I've been playing a lot of Fallout 3 recently, and I crack up every time I fast travel into Megaton and can see an NPC in the other side of the settlement fanatically trying to figure out the shortest distance to you so they can thank you for disarming the bomb and give you a bottle of dirty water

I love when certain Dark Souls NPCs have unique animations.
For example, Emerald Herald in DS2:
Majula is the best Souls hub (fight me) and Emerald Herald just carelessly swinging her feet to the rhythmic sound of ocean waves crashing is incredibly relaxing.

I miss when games came with manuals that actually played into and added to the story.

The first few years of zombies on COD.
the Easter eggs were fun and involved, it had a few neat perks and a couple of super guns...
now it just seems bloated

I love that when you are using the electric lines to travel in Mario Odyssey the tone of your current moving through the lines stays on key and rhythm with whatever background music is playing in the level.
Completely unnecessary to the overall game, but such a nice little detail.

Playing black flag and your crew starts a shanty. Especially drunken sailor. I don’t think I ever got tired of it.

so I've been playing Dark Souls Remastered for the last few weeks and the messages on the ground never fail to make me laugh at random moments.
I find it annoying in Elden Ring though (maybe because of the sheer volume of messages).

When I was 8 years old, I realized that you could use the same cheat code that you used to unlock all the characters in WCW Nitro in WCW Thunder.
This was before the internet, and the game had just came out. I always felt like I was the first person to figure this out

My favorite little thing is more of a negative: I appreciate when I rarely, if ever, hear repeated ambient dialogue. Obviously in a perfect world there would be hours and hours of unique dialogue recorded, but I appreciate not every game can manage that. But I would vastly prefer silence to being asked for the thousandth time if someone stole my sweet roll. It’s immediately immersion breaking for me.

Final fantasy is notorious for this

Good answer. They’ve been doing wayyy too much for the zombie games lately. The originals were and always will be the best.

The little touches in the Metro games like swapping gas filters, wiping grime off of your mask, using a bullet lighter to illuminate your map in a dark tunnel. Those games, especially the first two, really nailed atmosphere.

Every single one of those people suck. I did spare them this playthrough and actually kill the nearby ghouls.

You mean you don't love hearing "got their asses whipped like a Novigrad whore" whenever you're riding into Crows Perch?
