Should’ve been named downward spiral. A mistake of a game.

the story just never grabbed me. I couldn't get over how tiny the world felt in comparison to pretty much every other Zelda.

Don't care for the motion controls but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I just think the plot and world design are really weak for a Zelda game.
Same here. I beat the game but its probably my least liked Zelda. Nintendo needs to do a real remake of Ocarina of Time with modern console graphics and world size

I was skeptical if I really wanted this prior to the FF VII Remake. After seeing what Square Enix has done with that I would throw all of my money at an OoT remake.

Skyward sword was the worst Zelda game I can remember.

I wasn’t a huge fan of breath of the wild. I understand why it’s loved it just felt like most of the land was empty. I’d have to trek across a large Forest or snow land to get to the shrines and that’s just boring.

Skyward sword was far too linear and the big worm you have to beat 3 times was just frustrating.

It's an okay game but a chore to finish. Lots of padding. Wouldn't be so bad except that nearly all of the padding takes place in areas that you've already explored. Wind Waker has a lot of padding too but at least it took you to some remote and unexplored locations.

Using parts of the overworld as practical mini-dungeons was a big misstep too. It's hard to feel immersed in what feels like an elaborate obstacle course out in the middle of nature. Having the feeling of at least a modicum of freedom is essential to these games. (And no, flying through a giant empty sky doesn't really count. While I'm on the subject of the sky, the forced minigame where you have to smash the targets is fricking terrible.)

Boss rehashes are boring too. The first fight with Ghirahim is awesome but after that, meh.

The motion controls... they're not everyone's cup of tea. I thought they were fine.

It would have been fine as an original IP. But it's not a great Zelda game.

Things that I enjoyed? Ancient Cistern's little twist. The music in the Fire Sanctuary. Groose. Scervo fight. That a-hole bot that follows you around in a few spots.

Terrible game, worst in the series unless you count CD-I games.

Skyward Sword will always be the game that made me realize reviews could be badly mistaken, because it was getting scores of 100 and GOAT type praise for a really brief period.

There were cool aspects to this game. Ghirahim was a cool character. The time crystals were a cool mechanic. The dungeons were mostly fine, and the Ancient Cistern was one of the better Zelda dungeons I can remember.

However, the linear and repetitive nature of the main plot (retreading over the same areas over and over again) was just killer, especially when you realize if they had just turned the sky into a Wind Waker type exploration experience with more fun islands, it would have resolved a lot.

I like to think the criticisms of Skyward Sword and how constrained and repetetive the exploration felt is what gave us BOTW, so for that I'm grateful.

So what’s the verdict on the standard controls for this game?

Mine was just delivered. I probably won't be able to play until the kids are in bed tonight. I never played the original. Even if it's one of the worst Zeldas, I'll still get some enjoyment out of it.

Same here. Update and let those of us on the fence about buying it know if you’re liking it.

Mine came in the mail yesterday, but I don't know when I'll get started. I'm too busy playing Sakuna of Rice and Ruin.

Same here. I never played the original. Busy in life and didn't have the right system at the time.

I will be starting it tonight.

Quick review slight SPOILERS POSSIBLE QUIT READING

Throwing is movement of controllers thrusted forward to get that animal to the guy.

It took a minute to get used to the controls. do the full practice when you get your sword. I have my controller clicked on a base but needed to unclick them to pass some of the sword techniques.

But in real game play outside of the sword training test... so far no need to split up the controllers.

Bottom line swinging the sword is easy but light years away from pressing B or Y in change.

So far I like that the map is marked and red X's when a main quest is asked.

The beginning is a little storied and you get over it quickly-I suppose. I like that there is cut scenes in taking over when you go to certain goals.

It is cartoonish 3D but improved.

I will update later I had to save and continue for now.

I'm to the boss in the first temple. I am enjoying the game. After BOTW this definitely feels like a classic 3D Zelda. It's taken me a while to get used to pressing L before moving the camera with the right analog stick. Also, I'd probably prefer just using buttons to swing the sword instead of the right analog stick, but it's not a huge deal. So, those two things separately aren't huge deals, but together they are pretty annoying. When fighting bigger bad guys, I'm having a tough time keeping the camera right and facing the enemy. I know that is what lock is for, but there are times I need to run around, especially against the first boss.

Really enjoying nostalgic Zelda tones.

the targeting with the sling shot only works good if you unclick the right controller from it's base.

I also appreciate the sound effects of old time Zelda.
