what are yalls thoughts on purchasing warranties on items such as a hard drive and video card, etc.?
For $7 is it worth a y yr replacement warranty on my HD. $24 for video card?

Jeez, I take a day off from posting and new people join the master race.

My personal opinion is they are not worth it. Most of these products have manufacturer 1-3 year warranties anyway. If my laptop for example crashes 4 years from now outside of warranty, I will probably want a new one by then anyway. I bought a new one in September and already want a new one

depends completely on how soon you plan to upgrade the part. If the price is right, I'd like to keep every part under warranty for however long im likely to use it before upgrading. for a video card, two years is sufficient (for me and most gamers. two months is sufficient for coyote).
remember that the HDD warranty is for part only, not data recovery.

Warranties are a rip off unless it is a direct replacement with a new product.
Not a replacement with a refurb or if you have to send the item in for a 4-6 week repair time.

That's how I feel. They offer it to you to make money off it.

In college I worked at Circuit City for a year and they pushed the warranty hard. Paid great comission on it too because only like 15% of the people who bought it ever actually used it. It was free cash for them.
The only thing it was good for in Circuit City was the old big screens because they would come out and replace the bulbs for free if they went out and car stereo speakers because they were an in store replacement with new speakers even if you blew them on purpose. If CC installed the original speakers the warranty included removing the old ones and installing the new ones too.
Other than that they fricked people hard.

Yeah, I wonder how much better the quality of the open 990's is for mid to high range. Supposedly open cans are way better for your mids and highs; and open cans also offer a much more "depthier" stage, as in you really feel like a band is playing that music right in front of you.
Open wasnt really an option for me though, bc of sound leakage reasons and to make my bass (which is mostly all lows, with a bit of a scoop on the EQ) come through loud and clear with some punch that open cans don't have.

Yo yo, are there any network specialists here? Just thought I'd ask before I bother post about some challenges I need to overcome in getting my dads house setup for wifi.
Need some real world knowledge, obviously, not just some generic googling or guesswork.
My parents have hughesnet. It is awful, but the only option out here.

nevermind.
seriously. that fricking service sucks, especially the new gen 3/4 (whichever its called, i forget). we have actually switched a couple of rural customers over to a different satellite company for internet its so bad. ping is outrageous, bandwidth flutters, etc.

What's your recommendation?

Has nothing to do with that. It's an issue of couplings vs junctions for lowest level of degradation.
Poor latency is all satellite Internet. Other than that it has been reliable since a recent upgrade to the service.
