I imagine that's why it's on clearance because no one ever does.

So here is what we are dealing with regarding the network issue:
My parents bought two adjacent properties, one vacant and the other with a little 700 sq ft cottage. They lived in that with their hughesnet while he was building a 6000 sq ft house in the vacant lot (OT baller, I know). When that was done, he had them run coax from the dish to his workshop, which is adjacent to the garage, which is connected to the main house. So the modem is in his workshop.
The builders installed phone jacks in several rooms in all three floors of the house. The jacks are connected by daisy chained cat5e. My dad changed out those phone jacks with ethernet ports, but left them daisy chained. Apparently he thought he could just connect the modem to a jack in his workshop and then connect the router to any of thr various other jacks in the house. Obviously he can't. So he had the router connected to the second jack in the series, which is located in a closet on the second floor.
Of course, the signal gets weakened downstairs in the living room, barely works on the back porch, and doesn't work at all in the pool house. The router needs to be in the living room for optimal access. He will need an extender on the second floor so that the third floor can have some form of an Internet connection. He would also like to have a signal in the second floor of his workshop.
I won't get into the details, but suffice it to say my dad is an old man (well, 60) set in his ways, and a switch is out of the question, as is punching any holes in the wall. And he doesn't have attic access for a drop in the desired living room wall.
Basically, what it boils down to is minimizing degradation in the path from modem to jack to jack to jack to living room jack to router. Some options include Ethernet junction boxes, couplers, or leaving the daisy chain intact and making the living room the end point. No, running a new continuous patch cable is not a fricking option. At least not until I convince him to let me punch a few holes.

Yeah its interesting. If you have a good repair guy its smooth sailing. I've been using repair

A good pilot is a necessity. The best strategy (or so i heard) is usually having 3 repairmen and a Captain and the 3 repairmen bring heavy clips
