re: Oblivion Remake could shadow drop as early as tomorrow

So far so good. I love oblivion. Had 120 hours played in 2007. Started a new game a while ago and had 70 hours played. Just a nice way to relax for me, about an hour or two a day.
Not a fan of the combat system of some of the newer games like elden ring and kcd2. I just want to mindlessly relax.. and kcd2 and elden ring require some thought with their combat systems.
I love this remaster. Will probably put a good 120+ hours into it over the next year. Should tide me over until fable 4 comes out.

smh elden ring combat is perfection, honestly just go caster if you struggle a lot with the dodge rolling
I have a lot of critiques of Elden Ring, but combat isn’t one of them, except for the parry timing. The timing is extremely, non-intuitively early. As someone who is very, very good at the other games in From’s library, not only did I struggle with the parry timing, but I actually couldn’t figure it out on my own, in spite of actively experimenting with it. It wasn’t until I pulled YouTube videos recorded solely to explain the parry timing that I understood what the timing was meant to be, and my immediate reaction was “are you fricking serious? That’s obscenely early…”
Now, once I learned that, it’s easy to replicate, but I still don’t understand what would possess them to time it the way they did, trying to fix something that wasn’t in the least bit broken in previous games, and breaking it in the process.

That could've been it, that made me include it with kcd2. Was a melee class in elden ring. Everything seemed to revolve around good timing. In my teens and 20s, i would've been into it for the challenge. In my 40s, I just want to mindlessly smash buttons lol. It's why oblivion still calls to me.

So, it can be that if you want it to be. From punishes mindless aggression more than it rewards attack variety, but if you watch videos of people who are really good at the games (and aren’t fighting with an inherently OP weapon like the DS1 BKH), you’ll see that their mastery of the entire moveset lets them beat bosses in a quarter of the time that it would take someone to dodge+R1 the boss the death.

I know all that cause I find the games easy
The inherent problem imo is that the entire game centers around dodge R1 on repeat as an optimal answer the overwhelming majority of the time with no emphasis on a balance of aggression and defensiveness. It only punishes aggressiveness and encourages you to play passively.
I am someone who wants to weave in and out of the insanity and blow up the enemy, but with execution required of me i.e. I screw up I get punished, but I am rewarded for being good. From games just don't provide that.
I can clear a boss in a From game in record time by being turbo aggressive, sure, but I am not actually rewarded in anyway besides saving a smidge of time.
Other games you have to balance it out because of regenerating stamina etc that bosses have.
As for the movesets, when I realized that the majority of weapons have the exact same moveset, that really hit hard for any enjoyment in variety of weapons. I can use basically the entire list besides some oddball weapons with optimal efficiency because they behave the same.

Poison gas seems broken half the time. You run through it, and it fills the entire zone. You just die because your HP slowly whittles down.
Also, I find the indoor maps to be a bit weird. When you are indoors, the map should default to indoor. I am pretty sure it does that in the original game. Here, you have to open the map and scroll down every single time to zoom into the indoor view.
Other than that though, this is really the perfect way to remaster a game like Oblivion.
Outside of some quality of life adjustments and changes to the leveling system, it's really the exact same Oblivion from 2006 under the hood, which for a game as famous as this, I feel like anything else would have caused an outcry.

Yeah I’ve found this to be pretty annoying. Didn’t remember what it was like in the original

Yeah, makes no sense why they changed it. Hopefully that will be patched.
All have have to play on is a laptop. I wish I had learned about cloud gaming a long time ago. Using GeForce Now at the moment. $10/month is a lot cheaper than a $1200 computer.
Runs great. I forgot how much I enjoyed this game.

Oh baby. Can't wait to finish Ex33 so I can play

So, funny story. I was planning to play fairly naturally, trying to avoid any over the top meta gaming for what would be my third playthrough. In spite of what I had read about Expert, I’m a vet, no issue I think. So I get out of the sewers, avoid the newb trap ruins I’m facing and walk around… to be faced by a highwayman. No big deal, I’m still level 1, so no scaling. I tell him to eat a dick and he attacks. I smoke him three or four times with my spell… only to notice I’ve done basically zero damage. And one hit takes off like a third of my health. So I take off running. Dude will not stop chasing me. I make it all the way up into the mountains, now being chased by wolves as well, only to look up and stumble onto Frostcrag Spire. So now I can warp all over the map and have access to basically every alchemical ingredient in the game. Woops
a-hole is probably outside still chasing me

Well…I have never played this game before (or any elder scrolls for that matter). This type of game wasn’t in my wheelhouse when I was younger. I tried playing Skyrim but didn’t get more than an hour in before I got distracted with another game, and never went back to it.
Got through the tutorial area tonight and first thing I did was go inside the ruins and get smoked by the bandit. Decided to shut it down and go to bed at 1 am. Can’t wait to really get started tomorrow.
Downside to working from home is that I may get fired tomorrow due to being away from my computer all day while playing this on the ps5
